Hello-
I have a Roland TD-50. When I play the snare lightly, I can clearly hear an open hi hat. When I record this sound shows up in the midi editor in Protools and I can hear it. It’s certainly easy enough to delete, but how do I get rid of it? It hasn’t always been there. When the Roland set is plugged in through a PA there is no crosstalk between the two instruments, which tells me that I have some setting in SD3 triggering that open hi hat sound. Thanks in advance.

I actually had the same issue, and it drove me nuts for a few hours. Turned out to be that the Hi-hat trigger was picking up the sympathetic vibrations from the snare, through the rack and cables! Made a few adjustments and the issue went away. Not saying that it’s the same issue with your setup, but maybe check it out.

Do you still have the same problem if you use SD3 standalone? The first thing I tell people to do when there’s a possible MIDI problem is to grab a free utility like snoize and run it standalone and play your kit and see if it’s sending what MIDI message you think it should be sending. If things are as they should be then the problem is elsewheres. You say there’s no crosstalk when playing through a PA but is your setup the same as it is when going into PT? Small seemingly insignificant differences in the physical setup can make a difference in crosstalk. Your rack may be setup the same but what about what said rack is setting on? How hard or soft is the surface – hardwood floor, drum riser, carpet, some kind of padding? Also make sure the MIDI preset you’re using in SD3 is correct as some of the presets have mistakes in them.
