    No mapping issues here…

As Jord points out, the default Decades midi map has Floortom 2 center mapped to midi note 41/F1 out-of-the-box.  However, maybe you are in a non-default configuration for some reason.  If you have an unmapped note and you want to map it, follow these instructions: select the kit piece in the layout, go to the “MIDI Mapping” box on the right and select the articulation you want to map, click on the “3 line” icon that appears to the right of the articulation when you mouse over it, and pick an option for assigning it (Add, Learn or Add suggested).  If your midi map is already full, then you’ll potentially be changing an existing mapped note, and if so just make sure it is one you’re not using or are OK doing without.

I do hope that a future version of SD will make this particular workflow a little less click-intensive and maybe exploit the MIDI map available from the Help menu by making it interactive.

That said – I spend the time to get these dialed in for a given kit and then save the project and move on.

Actually that was one of my Session Player maps that I use with Logic.

Mapping is not that convoluted. All you need to do is select the kit piece from the dropdown a the articulation in the window and click Learn and fire your MIDI note. Took me no more than 15 minutes to create a complete mapping for various instruments, such as percussion.

Thanks very much guys! I got it figured it out. What was/is bending my brain is that there are three saveable file types: User Presets, Midi maps, and Projects. Changing midi note assignments in a user preset can change the midi map file, and vice versa. But the midi map file is not saved with the user preset, it is saved with the project. And some SDXs require a different midi map file since they have different numbers of toms or other instruments. So you can’t have only one project and midi mapping file for all of SD3. (?)

Correct you can’t. If you are playing with edrums you should only change midi note numbers in the edrum settings and not on the main page. I have quite a few different edrum maps for different kits. Also that flexibility allows you to create all sorts of interesting kits.

SD3 with older sdx,s plus Rooms of Hansa and Death & Darkness. Cubase and wavelab current versions. Roland TD50x using all trigger inputs for triggering SD3 only. Windows 11 computer. Various keyboards and outboard gear as well as VST instruments. Acoustic drums: Yamaha 9000 natural wood and Pearl masters. Various snare drums. RME BabyFace Pro FS and Adam A7X monitors

But it would be nice if when changing user presets within the same SDX the corresponding MIDI map would load, right now you have to go to the midi settings and change it there, I don’t want to save 1 project for each user preset…

Not really. It would mess up grooves and other “players” and controllers that rely on certain mappings. Changing it at the project level is more appropriate where mapping remains a constant throughout presets rather than variable with each preset.

Yes, you don’t need a project and associated midi mapping for each user preset. But you will need one for an SDX that has non-standard instruments – mostly toms. I have 110 SD3 user presets now spread across six SDXs and have about eight midi mapping files. They are mostly tied to the SDXs, though occasionally just one preset where I have a weird one-off instrument layout. The best way to manage all this is to use a VST host like Cantabile. It takes time to understand it and get it all set up, but after that I can now select any of my user presets from one large drop down list and the correct midi mapping loads with it.
