Hello all,
My apologies if this topic has been covered. I am trying to record performances whilst playing along with drum less tracks. I am routing midi through a Presonus 2/4 interface. Audio from SD3 and Youtube or Drumeo or whatever drum less track source is all fine. However, when I attempt to record using audacity, I am not seeing SD3 being heard in the recording monitor. I set the recording channel to the USB interface, and that is heard and recorded no problem. SD3 is not, despite it being routed also through the interface and perfectly audible on speakers or headphones. I’m assuming there is no copyright type protection as SD3 is designed to be used for music production? I have also tried emulators like VB audio cable in case it is being seen as a separate channel, but this does not work either. Can anyone help with my lack of understanding?
Thanks in advance, much appreciated.

Hi,
it has nothing to do with SD3 but more your system and audio hardware. I am on Mac myself, so the built-in CoreAudio makes this easier.
Does your audio interface have some kind of internal mixer and routing software? You need to find a way to route the output(s) of your applications to an input (probably a virtual one) without getting feedback.

Thanks John. Not that I am aware of. You might be correct. I’m confused though, as when I’m playing music through youtube or media player or anything else along with SD3, the audio output from the laptop is set to the interface, and I hear both without issue, and can adjust volume independently from YT or SD3. I set the recording monitoring on Audacity to the interface, and it shows signal on the level meters when I play music through youtube etc, but it “hears” nothing coming from sd3, despite the fact i can still hear everything on speakers and phones. Ive tried virtual cables but no luck. Im guessing the audio from SD3 is coming through the usb to the laptop as well as audio from YT etc, but unsure why audacity is only seeing a discreet signal where the actual audio output is picking up everything. I guess it’s audacity, but I’m still a bit puzzled.
Thanks for your help regardless.

But isn’t the PreSonus Universal Control software for your hardware and what you need?
