Hello – brand new EZ Drummer 3 user here.
I can successfully open the standalone EZD3 and play the kits through my Roland edrum kit and TD-50x. The hi-hat controls respond as I expected and it all seems to work.
However, my goal is to use EZD3 as a VST within Bitwig Studio 5. It *almost* works but I do not have any hi-hat control. The hi-hat always has an ‘open’ sound. The little hi-hat slide controls within EZD3 don’t seem to have any effect. If I stomp my edrum’s hi-hat pedal I get a single closed hi-hat sound, but hitting the hi-hat with a stick while the pedal is down just gives me an open sound. I don’t have any “foot splash” effect either.
If I insert a CC controller in front of the VST plugin (within Bitwig), I can manually adjust CC1 and CC4 and get different hi-hat sounds. I just can’t get my physical hi-hat edrum controller to do the same. It is as if Bitwig is somehow blocking CC1 and CC4 signals to the VST plugin.
Easy fix. Watch this video. He starts talking about what you need at 0.38. He talks about how to remap for keyboards, but it works for drums as well. https://youtu.be/68IVzRIpcM4?si=VXHxrZKiQf53lHmY
He also tells you how to get different hits, such as rimshots.
What is your ekit? There might be readymade settings for it in EZD.

Thanked by: Mel StrongThank you Mike – in that video he is showing how to “learn” (remap) the MIDI notes to different drum sounds. I can do that just fine for all the instruments, but I can’t get it to “learn” the hi-hat CC controls within Bitwig. Or rather, it is already listing the correct CC numbers, but doesn’t seem to be getting the signal. I’ve tried to get it to “relearn” the hi-hat controls but I have been unable to. There is already a TD-50x preset, which I am using, and everyone works completely fine in standalone. Just not as a VST plugin within Bitwig.
Sorry, but it’s beyond me. Hopefully someone with greater knowledge than mine will pick it up.
I’m not a Bitwig expert but perhaps check your settings in Bitwig to see if it is capturing or filtering out MIDI CC messages.

Thanked by: Mel StrongYes that’s my thought too – I’ve submitted a ticket to Bitwig asking more or less the same thing. It doesn’t help that I’m a newbie to Bitwig as well! Too much new stuff all at once for my little brain to handle.
Perhaps there’s a preference in either the application or project level. Sorry, I can only relate based on my experience with Logic.

I don’t even know if this forum is searchable, but in case someone else ends up with this problem….in Bitwig add the TD-50x controller as a “keyboard” instead of “controller.” That solved my problem! Thanks to everyone who gave me suggestions!
