The asterisk means that you have not saved to your user presets. I can only get the asterisk if I change anything in a kit, such as swap a drum. The performance will use whatever is showing in the menu.

If I select the preset, then the kit (or vice versa: kit THEN present), does that mean the preset will use my selected kit for the performance ?

Hi, selecting a Drums and Mixer Preset “overwrites” any current Kit and Mixer settings.

    Peace again 🙂

    Thank you both.

So if I choose a “songwriter ringy” preset, but then I go under “kits” and choose “studio kit,”  does that mean I STILL get the ringy effect but with a different drumset?  OR does it mean that I no longer get the effect only the studio kit sound?

    Thank you again 🙂

You will still get the effect with your chosen kit loaded in the preset. What John was saying was if you change presets, your changes will be lost if you don’t save your modified preset.

If you decide to use a different preset with a different kit than the original kit in that preset, you will need to load you desired kit into that preset
