Hey everyone,
Just wanted to know if anyone has had success partnering these two together. There isn’t a preset for it yet so I’ve selected the Roland TD50 and had to do some tinkering.
Any help would be appreciated!
Does the drum brain have a General MIDI preset for the MIDI output? That could at least get you started with using the GM MIDI preset in SD3. If you go that route be aware that there are some errors in the SD3 GM preset for the rack toms. That’s some pricey kit at $6000 US.

The Zildjian brain has 10 midi channels by default. Superior Drummer 3 does recognize it as a Midi input however its the mapping that starts to get funky. The zildjian cymbals just start choking after a minute of playing. I’ve turned the muting off in superior drummer 3 yet it continues to trigger and mute. I’ve tried changing the zones but haven’t had much luck. You are correct…the price tag is up there…$9599CAD :/
I just want to enjoy the damn thing paired with SP3.

Not asking about how many MIDI channels but does it have the ability to change the mapping of the MIDI output? Like what pad triggers what in SD3? Does it have a mapping preset to do General MIDI drum mapping? If it does use that and set SD3 for GM (general MIDI) in the MIDI in/edrum tab.

These are the MIDI notes sent by the Zildjian E-Vault module, as for the cymbal chokes, you need to select “Single choke mode” in the edit tab of the midi settings window.

Thanked by: Scott EshlemanBlue Mistral: It’s interesting that the Zildjian Acheme-e SD3 MIDI in-edrums preset mapping in SD3 is completely different than the mapping you show here.

Yes, it is in fact wrong, that’s why I created one from scratch using the midi shown above. Hope toontrack fixes it in the next update.
you can download the map here:

Thanks for the preset. Sad comfort to know that this isn’t the only preset SD3 has wrong. For instance their GM drum map is wrong and who knows what else. I doubt any of these will ever get fixed.

Hi, I have alerted a colleague to this thread but I am curious about what is wrong with the GM Extended drum map?

Where is the drum map you mention? I don’t see it anywheres in the mapping selection window in the MIDI in-edrums section. But if you’re talking about the ‘generic’ mapping amongst other things note D2 in general MIDI drum mapping is supposed to be high tom 1 and the ‘generic’ mapping has it mapped to cymbal 2 mute hit; note E2 is supposed to be a China and SD3 has it mapped to cymbal 5 crash. There are others that are wrong. Here’s the page I’m basing my words on https://computermusicresource.com/GM.Percussion.KeyMap.html
I know there are a number of things percussion related that are not used in SD3 but I’m talking the basic drum mapping. If I pull MIDI sequences off the net they are usually done in GM mapping whether drums or other instruments. The biggest thing for me is the toms both rack and floor toms.

TO THE OP: Sorry for going on here about something that isn’t related to your question.
Ah, sorry, I have been doing this for so long I call things by obsolete names.
The GM Extended drum map is what became the Toontrack Standard mapping when EZdrummer came along (if memory serves me right).
This was intended to build on GM standard but scrapping the percussion notes giving room for more drum articulations across multiple products.
I see what you mean with note#50 being High Tom in GM and Crash Muted Hit in Toontrack Standard.
There are 6 Tom notes in GM and 5 in Toontrack Standard.
Regarding the China on note #52 in GM, (in i.e. Jazz Sessions the China is mapped to #52) I would assume far from all TT products had a China present and I guess at some point an internal standard had to be set for widest compatibility and with the possibility of making your own MIDI map presets, it wouldn’t pose a big problem, right? Or am I missing something?
The Generic (CC Hi-Hat) MIDI Preset maps note#50 to a high tom note if present in the currently loaded kit. The Generic (No CC) doesn’t. Hopefully a colleague can shed som light over this.
IMHO, the Standard mapping and substitution scheme works surprisingly well across, given that there are products with everything from 2 Toms/Cymbals to 13 Toms/15 Cymbals.

John

Thanked by: Scott EshlemanI can understand that some SDX’s have a boatload of toms but would it have been too much of a problem to at least have the 6 GM toms accounted for (mapped properly) in SD3’s GM mapping?
