I’m using a merge of two Alesis kits (Surge and Crimson II) and they work fairly well, although I opted to buy two eDrumIn modules instead of the Alesis modules for easier control of the midi assignments and support for multi-zone (which is not great on the Alesis snare, but better than not).  Also it let me connect additional cymbals from Lemon.

That said, now that I have experience with the quality of Lemon cymbals, I’m wondering if a complete Lemon kit would be a good low-priced alternative as well.

You can see a clip of this set being paired with EZ Drummer to great effect on YouTube. I personally use a flagship Roland module and it triggers Superior Drummer great.

So Roland are known for good triggering, without too much messing around and have really low midi latency, which is essential. Alesis have higher latency so you can add that to the latency of the audio interface. I used to use an old ddrum4 kit which triggered great. I tried a millennium kit at a church once and found the triggering awful. I am used to using a td50x though with all three digital pads.

SD3 with older sdx,s plus Rooms of Hansa and Death & Darkness. Cubase and wavelab current versions. Roland TD50x using all trigger inputs for triggering SD3 only. Windows 11 computer. Various keyboards and outboard gear as well as VST instruments. Acoustic drums: Yamaha 9000 natural wood and Pearl masters. Various snare drums. RME BabyFace Pro FS and Adam A7X monitors

My advice would be the Roland TD-17 kit. There are several options, varying in price.

Make sure it has all the cables and such. Something to keep in mind that for the most part the kit will be quiet until you crank up the monitor speakers. What will never go away is the thump of the kick pedal hitting the pad on the lick tower. Especially if there’s a room below you – trust be that thump sound can and will travel through the floor boards. Trust me that an ekit will always have some little sounds coming from it. And don’t be surprised if you have to change sticks to a wood or plastic/nylon tip for a better playing experience.
