I’m more bothered about getting  rim shots when head and rim are hit together and rim only when just hitting the rim. Also I would like samples of shallow rim shots (they are higher pitch ) so full rim shot with rim and centre and shallow with rim and edge. PS on all toms. Basically anything that allows a drummer playing edrums get a more natural and instinctive feel.

SD3 with older sdx,s plus Rooms of Hansa and Death & Darkness. Cubase and wavelab current versions. Roland TD50x using all trigger inputs for triggering SD3 only. Windows 11 computer. Various keyboards and outboard gear as well as VST instruments. Acoustic drums: Yamaha 9000 natural wood and Pearl masters. Various snare drums. RME BabyFace Pro FS and Adam A7X monitors

For me, its simple.  Add a NEXT and PREVIOUS button (and keyboard shortcut or midi learn) to go from one preset to the next.

Having to use the mouse while at the kit to go in a dropdown menu every time I wanna try a different kit is so primitive and a joy kill.

If this was in a module/brain, there would be a next/previous with one tap.

Lord please add the ability to insert instruments where I want them so all my rototoms are together and all jam blocks etc. it’s so super annoying that if I add a 5th or 6th jam block down the road after having added other drums after the 1st 4 that I cannot insert them logically after the 1st 4. call me Mr. OCD or Anal but it makes it a challenge at times when I’m adding stuff over time. and would love to see an easy way to import multilayered samples similar to the Strike Editor. Right now I just have been importing one sound and using the soft hit level option to make it sound a little more natural. But a tool to import using round robin etc would be awesome. Oh, and the ability to easily copy instruments with all presets so I don’t have to go to the mixer and figure out what settings to apply so they sound consistent. this can be a huge PITA at times, though I have gotten much better at it.

As an e-drummer I agree with Mark. Also more realism in hi hats and smoother transitions between open articulations both opening and closing would always be appreciated by any e-drummers. An opportunity for Toontrack to lead the charge in this (very difficult) area. Hi-Hats are clearly the single most difficult thing to replicate acoustic hi hats with virtual instrument.

I’d like to see the ‘Replace MIDI’ function from EZDrummer 3 and it would also be great to be able to drag only a part of a groove to the song timeline (unless there’s already a way to do that I don’t know about).

I have recently received a bunch of advertisements for sd3 on social media. It leads me to believe that maybe it’s their last push on the product before SD4 is released. Just a tin foil hat theory.

I think we can probably all concur that the sounds are not what need the most improvement. IMHO it’s more about convenience features (see my post above) obviously adding an easy way to quickly import multilayered samples would improve the sound of imported samples but you get the idea.

My feeling exactly. I’ve been literally spammed by SD3 adverts, even though I wasn’t searching for anything SD-related. I think they’re still finalising recording and building the interface and features – just my gut feeling. I hope the new drum kits will not be too swollen because I’m running out of space on my SSDs.

Seeing as we paid the premium price for superior drummer, and now ezdrummer has more features

I really hope they put those into superior drummer 3 without charging us

They should just be a Superior Drummer 3 upgrade… If they release superior drummer 4 there must be some thing that makes it far more attractive than ezDrummer 3

The sounds alone make it worth more than ezdrummer and it has far more features already. Ezdrummer is more designed for non drummers and ease of use, with lots of features for that. If sd4 comes out I would say it will be an upgrade price if you have sd3.

What additional features does EZ drummer have over SD?

Really hoping SD4 is coming this year. Feels long over due. I’d love to see the grid features that currently exists in EZdrummer 3 incorporated into the superior line. Also, third party plugin availability in the mixer!!

3rd party plugins would be killer. I’d settle for just being able to use EZmix inside of the host, which I’m not sure why they haven’t done yet. What’d also be great is if we could get channel presets inside of the host. If you like the processing chain for your snare top mic, save it as such. Or if you like the parallel processing you did on a bus send, save it

Nothing for the e-kit drummer playing at home, but probably features more relevant to the non-drummer who needs a great tool for constructing natural sounding drum tracks for their songs.

Totally what Andrew Payne wrote! Hi-Hat transitions are still work-in-progress as far as many drummers are concerned. I’ve got eDRUMin controllers with an optical sensor for the  Hi-Hat CC notes and it sends 1-127 to SD which I don’t believe SD knows what to do with seeing as there are only (I think) 6 articulations for open/closed transitions. Probably enough for passing through from a mechanical Roland plunger controller and a Roland module with whatever MIDI info it generates. But things are moving on with optical sensors and Hall sensors which will send MIDI info more like a keyboard player’s expression pedal rather than a clunky old plunger system from the 90s.

I wouldn’t mind seeing an option to make mic signals mono like in the real world where it’s only condensers which are recorded as stereo. Every producer wants drum stems in mono so I have to convert them in a DAW before sending. It would be nice to record in mono at source – or maybe I’ve missed a setting in the interface!!!!
