Hi Everyone, I’m trying to print a groove from SD3 directly onto a track on Pro Tools. I found a link a while ago that would allow me to do this but I saved the link and can not locate it. It would have you open two tracks and one track would play SD3 and the other would record that as it would as if you were recording directly from an interface input. You could then close SD3 and never have to open it again.
I have tried this link https://www.toontrack.com/faq/ezdrummer-2-midi-out-with-pro-tools/ and it was very similar to the link I found, but this allows me to print the midi info but does not retain the audio. I am sure I’m missing something simple.
Any step by step suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks to the forum, joe
Pro Tools Studio
It’s simple and the same like you would record the output of any other virtual instrument. Create an audio track in ProTools and set it’s input to the output of the vi in question which in this case is SD3. Make sure that SD3 is NOT using multi-channel output in the mixer. I have to asl is the MIDI coming from PT and going to SD3? If so the easiest thing is to put SD3 on an instrument track and the audio output is automatically routed to that instrument track. To record that audio select ‘create a new track’ from the output field of the instrument track and create an audio track. The audio from SD3 in the instrument will get recorded on that new audio track. You record enable the new audio track and start the PT transport using the shortcut key F12 on the computer keyboard.

Thank You Drumjack52, Worked perfectly and appreciate extra advice. I reset my ins and outs on the computer and my Apollo and followed your instructions. I’m sure it was one little thing I was missing but your help made a big difference. Thanks again, joe

Good to hear that it worked. Working with PT every day things tend to go without thinking about and then you run into someone who’s new to the game and that I don’t mind helping out. The learning curve for PT can be a steep one. One thing to keep in mind that MIDI and audio are two different things and get treated differently. I’d suggest spending some time with the ProTools manual and learn the routings and such.
