it means that you don’t have something set up properly in CoreAudio. Check your audio preferences within logic to make sure that you are properly outputting to your speakers, and also make sure that the microphone in your menu bar is set to standard mode. if logic is outputting sounds from other sources without any issue, there should be no problem with EZD.

Hi There. I have EZ Drummer 3 on my iMac and now my brand new macbook pro. I don’t seem to ever get this error message while using my imac. I wanted to start using my EZDrummer 3 while away from my desk. So I went and invested in a brand new macbook pro. I have 18 gb ram, on the macbook pro, running Apple M3 Pro, Sonoma 14.2.1. According to the toontrack website this new macbook pro should check all the requirements to run in Logic. On my macbook pro I am not using an interface and have the audio output set to the macbook pro speakers. When I open EZDrummer for the first time on my mackbook and start to play a groove or two, everything works fine and the audio comes from the laptop speakers just fine. after a few minutes or so, the error message appears and stops any kind of audio playback from EZdrummer. While all other audio works fine out of logic. When I log into Toontracks Product Manage it sates my EZDrummer is “Up to Date”. I have EZDrummer version 3.0.6. My mackbook pro is also up to date with its software with Sonoma 14.2.1.

When I use EZDrummer on my iMac i have no issues. It is also a new computer. n my imac I use an audio interface. So I tried hooking up my macbook pro to the same interface to ensure that its not the lack of an interface being the problem. I still got the same error message when my interface was hooked up to my macbook pro. The imac is an Apple M1 with 16gb ram. Its also running Sonoma 14.1.2. But i have no issues with thie error message on my imac. Does EZDrummer not run on the M3 Pros? I cant fiure this out. I reached out to Toontrack support but i might not get a response for five days. Anyone smarter then me (not hard to do) that can help? I am so frustrated. thanks for your advice. Cheers.

Aside from Jord’s always spot on advice, try to make sure that nothing else is configired to use the sound card. Meaning make sure that Mail, Messages, etc, are not setup to make a sound when a new email/message is delivered. This shouldn’t be an issue, but sometimes when I’m using Pro Tools, it seems to jam things up.

Brad makes an excellent point. Sonoma has been bringing more transitions over to Apple Silicon and CoreAudio has been exhibiting some wonky behaviour, especially on the M3’s. When using Logic, ensure nothing else is being used. It will probably be that way until around 14.4

Hi there – I appreciate your help here. I had checked and my output seems to be set up properly. Attached is a screenshot of my Logic Audio settings. When I initially open a track in logic and open EZDrummer the plug in works fine. I hear radio from my laptop speakers no problem. Then within only a few minutes it stops and gives me the error message. The only thing I have found when googling the issues is my logic has too much running, But that simply isn’t true as I have only one single track open with absolutely noting in it.

As for the microphone suggestion can you elaborate on where I would find that? I can’t seem to locate it.

Again I really appreciate your help.

Thanks for the reply. I appreciate it. This is such a bummer. I went and bought this computer for this specific reason and according to the Toontrack specs I shouldn’t have any issues. Just a bummer.

As Jord pointed out, this could be just growing pains of new technology. Hang in there.

For the microphone access. Click the Apple > Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone and make sure Logic has access to it.

Also here’s a small blurb from Focusrite on microphone modes,

When this happens, please test to place some MIDI on the Logic track where EZdrummer is and start Logic playback. Does it start working again then?

Ahhh… Olof pointed out something I missed.

If your drum MIDI is in EZD3, put a blank MIDI region on Logic’s instrument track. Logic will turn off any plugins that it thinks you’re not using. This is handy when you’re not ready to use those resources. I have a few templates set up like this. However, it will result in tje error you are experiencing

BTW, your M3 Pro is more than up to spec for both Logic and EZD3. Depending on your needs, you might want to invest in a dock and a couple of external drives.

P.S. The microphone thing I was describing is in your menu bar. It’s a green (?) icon that you will see when Logic is running.

Hey there. I truly appreciate everyone’s time and help here. I’m a real novice and feel bad, but I’m not sure I’m following the blank midi region. For now I’m mostly just using EZDrummer 3 for the built in groves. I’m not hooking up any midi instruments yet. I’m solely working off the laptop.

I do have an iMac that I will use for more involved work that has midi’s hooked up. I’m really just wanting to use the laptop as a tool to edit and come up with ideas while I’m away from my desktop.

I found the microphone you were talking about and it is set to standard

I don’t use Logic day to day, but what I think Olof and Jord are talking about is plug-in napping. If there’s a blank midi region on the Logic track, then it should stop the plug-in from napping, which may solve the issue. Jord or Olof should be able to explain it better.

Thanks. Makes some sense. How do I create a blank midi region?

I can’t think of anything to add on top of what Brad wrote

Use the pencil tool in Logic to draw a blank region on a track. That’s all you need to do.

So I am still having this issue. I have been swamped with my five year old to be able to get back on this forum sadly. But I have created black MIDI regions. I have tried all suggestions. Toontracks support has been unable to identify what is wrong. It’s extremely frustrating. Anyone have any idea what in the world is going on?
