Greetings
As the title says, I am looking for the best options when it comes to metal expansions, especially for thrash and metalcore subgenres. As I’m considering buying EzDrummer 3 Bundle, I can pick two of them. So far I kinda like sounds for a long list (Metal!, Progressive, Modern Metal, Drums of Destruction, Metal Machine, Metalheads, Drumkit From Hell), and I am pretty much sure I can get great sounding drums from all of them. I’d like to get something ready to go as I’m not that experienced in mixing, especially mixing drums. I am quite decent at getting functional drums (I sketch music on Guitar Pro 7), but I might night some extra ideas on groves and add creative fills with MIDI libraries.
Here’s some considerations on the kits I mentioned:
- Metal! > pros: good sound overall, MIDI library from Dirk Verbeuren, lots of kits… – cons: …maybe too many to choose from?, old plugin, I head better
- Progressive > pros: good sounds, great toms, insane amount of great cymbals / stacks! – cons: might be not the best overall for my genres, basic MIDI library
- Modern Metal > pros: five kits, good sounding, design for modern metal – cons: “low” amount of cymbals (considering the other offers)
- Drums of Destruction > pros: great sound overall, lots of presets – cons: only two racktoms, is there any possibility to get a third one in place?
- Metal Machine > pros: great toms, good variety of cymbals – cons: old expansion / outated? , less processed sounds maybe?
- Metalheads > pros: good sounds overall, same name as a song I might release (weak pro, but still) – cons: only two kits, MIDI just from Meshuggah songs (not my cup of tea)
- Drumkit From Hell > pros: sounds good in the mix, extended MIDI library – cons: only one demo song on the product page, no individual sounds previewed
Other general questions:
- Can I import my songs from Guitar Pro MIDI files and edit only certain areas / fills?
- Can I use a certain kit from expansion 1 and import selected samples from expansion 2? (using a kit from Metal! and cymbals from Progressive)
- Can I use MIDI libraries I bought with expansion 1 on each kit / preset I select?
