I finally got around to playing with the recording of my playing but noticed that when you export to midi file it does not play the actual sounds. Just midi notes. How do you record so it replays from a MP3 etc file.
Midi is messages and not audio. You need to use the bounce feature to get audio.
SD3 with older sdx,s plus Rooms of Hansa and Death & Darkness. Cubase and wavelab current versions. Roland TD50x using all trigger inputs for triggering SD3 only. Windows 11 computer. Bounce feature? OK, I will look it up and see if I can find info on how to use this feature. thanks
So I see that bounce feature creates a a bunch of separate files. How do I get just one file?

Make sure all channels are routed to output 1/2 in the mixer tab. Then when you are in Bounce, select the Advanced tab and select Bounce Output Channels. This will result in everything being written to one stereo audio file.

I’m still pretty new with this so I may need more direction on how to route the channels to output 1/2. thanks

I have to ask, what ultimately are you wanting to accomplish? Are you just wanting to listen to your drumming or are you wanting to get your drumming into a session/song in a DAW like Reaper, Studio One, Pro Tools, etc?

I suspect that you were having this issue because you may have routed your outputs in the mixer to multiple output channels. To elaborate what Brad is saying, to you need to a single output channel in order for bounce your audio to one WAV file. The screenshot in Brad’s post illustrates where to do this.

Basically, I Just want to be able to share some Demos of my kits mainly with friends/family. Ideally, I want to setup my phone on a tripod and video me playing AND be able to do like a privately shared youtube video. any other suggestions on best way to do all this are welcome.
I would use a DAW. Reaper for instance on your computer.
A simple way is to open sd3 as a vst instrument. Have it play through your speakers. Set the DAW recording (this is recording midi)
With your phone setup and recording video do about 4 evenly spaced rim clicks and then play what you want to.
Export the mix from your DAW
Load the video onto your computer and with a video editing program drop the exported audio in with the video and line up the clicks with the video audio. When lined up mute the video audio and save in the format you want it.
If that all sounds too complicated then you can get audio interfaces that will work with phones (mainly apple with iOS but probably android as well). Plug interface into your phone and the output from the computer that is running sd3 into the interface input and record a video with the audio from sd3. Not as good as you can’t really edit it.
I use Cubase and import the video into there and line up the new audio so I don’t need video software. I’m not sure what other DAWs do.
If none of this means anything to you then you have a steep learning curve ahead of you.

OK, well, while the 1/2 output suggestion works for getting one file, it also changes the sound a bit. Like it comes out more dry like it drops some of the ambience and other effects. Not all but definitely a noteable difference, so I’m guessing the better option is the DAW which I do need to learn at some point I guess.

Make sure you have routed all the OH, Ambient and Effects channels to Output 1/2 as well as the microphone channels.
If you provide a mixer screen print we can probably figure out what’s happening.
Is this a custom kit you’ve put together or a SD3 kit and preset? If the latter, which kit and preset?

As far as I can tell, all banks are set to output 1/2. But something seems a bit off with the sound. like it’s not picking up all affects. wish I had saved as a different name so I could post a sample of both but didn’t think of that until it was too late.
This is from the ‘Too Much Tape’ preset but I have obviously added a bunch of drums to it and tweaked some of the mixers. and updated the snare a bit for the sound I wanted.
In fact, I changed the kick, snare, hi-hat back to their original output settings and the OH Dyn back to AMB and it brought back the original sounds, or at least closer to what it was before. (see mixer settings3 which shows the ones I changed back) so I must have missed something since the sound is def much dryer when setting them all to 1/2

I think I see what’s happening now. In my screen print example I was using a very “simple” setup.
The preset you are using has bus channels. Those bus channels should be the ones routed to Output 1/2.
The bus channels in this preset have certain effects on them, which will change the sound of the output. The setup you are showing is bypassing all that processing.
The instrument channels should be routed to the appropriate bus channel. For example;
Channels; Kick-In, Kick-Out and Kick-Sub should be routed to the Bus Channel “Kick”, which in turn is routed to Output 1/2. Same for Snare, Toms, etc, etc….
Hope this makes sense.

OK, got it now! that was it. The more I play with this, the more I’m starting to understand the mixers better. Now I see that the Mics are routed to the buses and now that I have the buses all routed to output 1/2, I get one file and it has the mixer settings. Yay!
Thanks all for the help. Eventually I hope to start playing with Reaper a bit.
