    Pro Tools user here. You need to turn down the bleed control for each kit piece in SD3’s mixer. Also you need to enable use of separate channels in SD3 if you haven’t done that already. I have a PT track preset that sets up my entire SD3 usage in one fell swoop. I have the SD3 mixer outputting to separate stereo channels. All kick mics to one output, snare mics to another output and do on down the line. I then have aux tracks in PT grabbing the output from say snare drum output from SD3, hihat out to a separate aux and son on. I also have each of those aux tracks feeding separate audio tracks when I go to render the MIDI to audio.

    Thanks.  I’ll retry setting up the whole routing.  One question:  after the correct routing has been accomplished I should only hear the kick, Tom’s, hi-hat,  etc on each Pro Tools track?  With absolutely no bleed from other tracks?  Only kick on kick.  Only hi-hat on hi-hat and so forth?   Even on the overhead tracks I should only hear cymbals?  Of course, unless the bleed feature is activated.

    Thank You!

    Like Jack indicated, disable bleed on all channels;

    What you hear in the overheads depends on the library. Traditional overheads in a drum kit can hear just about everything – cymbals, toms, snare, and maybe even a little of the kick drum. That’s what that micing is designed to do – get an overall view of the kit.

    Thank you!  I tried turning all the bleed controls off, but, I still get bleed in the channels.  If I solo, say the snare track with all the bleed turned down, I still hear most of the kit. Maybe I’m assuming too much.  I’m thinking if I have the bleed off I should only hear the snare.  I know that if it was actually a whole kit the snare mic would pick up the other drums too.

    Another question about routing.  The original Pro Tools track that has SD3 instantiated on it?  How does it fit into the routing scheme?

    Thank You👍

    Hi there
    Which kit and preset are you using?

    Hi again,

    Here’s a small PT session with the bleeds disabled. Hopefully it gives you a blueprint on setting things up.

    Actually the Amb Ribbon channel still has bleeds enabled, kind of the nature of an ambient mic I would think.

    I’m not just turning the bleeds down, I’m using the pulldown on each channel and disabling the bleeds.
