I’ve just upgraded to EZKeys2, and one of the key reasons I wanted to do this was after seeing allthe new editing features – particulary the “Songwriting Scales” window that I saw in a few Toontrack videos.
However, It looks like this window is only an example – clicking on the different keys (like “Dorian” or “Blues Pentatonic”) doesn’t change the actual midi?
The Key drop-down at the bottom of the window only gives me options to set Major and Minor.
What happens if I want to have a piano part in Lydian for example? Have I got to manually shift all the chords in a groove myself?
the songwriter scales is a device to suggest possible progressions but once you move the chords into your track and/or change up the MIDI, the songwriter scales is not really useful (imho) unless you’re adding another section or track. you can of course change scales like major and minor – however, it does allow that because it’s fairly “trivial” from a mechanical change perspective versus what a composer may have intended…
it would be a nice feature to ask for though: the ability to try out other scales (although it’s also likely those changes may significantly alter the progression vs simply flipping major and minor).
maybe something like they have in hookpad?
