Hi all, guitarist trying to emulate drummer here. Finally jumping into tackling Roland td-27 triggering SD3 and running into some snags. Been searching through topics and learning a lot but not getting straight to my answer needs—so, some NOOB questions here.
Setup: TD-27 module (v2 firmware) on an AtoE conversion kit. Snare, ride, cymbals factory. Upgraded to vh-14 hi-hat, 3 rack toms, 2 floor toms, bk-1 (cowbell). Dedicated Macbook pro, connected via USB with latest roland driver, lastest SD3 and SDX expansions installed. Using Digital Performer 11 with SD3 as plug-in (I want to be able to record MIDI so don’t want to use stand-alone).
Problem #1: Sound volume when triggering kit is inaudible. When playing notes using cursor to trigger instrument —volume fine. I’ve read some support topics regarding adjusting USB gain etc. and will explore that — but I’m missing, or not finding, the audio/midi setup. Can’t find a menu anywhere to tell SD3 what device is triggering it.
Watching this video for basic setup (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vcyj1kBzO2E&t=153s).
Problem #2: I will obviously need to map my kit to SD3 instruments that vary (or need additional instruments) from the SD3, roland td-27 preset. I thought I would start with the roland td-50x preset as it would have settings for the vh-14 hi-hat. In that same tutorial video above, they simply highlight an instrument > go to midi mapping ≥ learn and hit the real kit instrument to learn the mapping.
I don’t have the “learn” menu item in my menu (see screen capture of fly-out menu).
Once I do resolve the mapping – what is the best/easiest workflow to retain my physical kit and mapping? Say I’ve created this kit in SD core SDX, but want to load a kit from Legacy of Rock SDX. How do I “apply” my custom mapping to SD3 presets?
Thanks
Firstly the midi input settings are in the DAW when not used standalone. The settings in sd3 are only used when in standalone mode.
You are on the wrong page so you won’t find the learn button. You need to be in the edrum page where you chose the td50x preset. Don’t change the mappings on the main page.
SD3 with older sdx,s plus Rooms of Hansa and Death & Darkness. Cubase and wavelab current versions. Roland TD50x using all trigger inputs for triggering SD3 only. Windows 11 computer. Various keyboards and outboard gear as well as VST instruments. Acoustic drums: Yamaha 9000 natural wood and Pearl masters. Various snare drums. RME BabyFace Pro FS and Adam A7X monitors

Thanked by: JohnWith mapping i firstly save my own User “keymap preset ” from an existing “Keymap” preset start point,
Load a favourite kit and Set current to default, this way any other library or kit preset follows that, if the kit has different kit pieces you still may need to adjust with midi learning.
