Hello,
Just wondering if anyone may know about this and if there is anything done to resolve it. Here is what I sent support:
I have a strange issue with the VH-10 hi ht CC and The Rock Warehouse SDX. I guess it’s weird because it doesn’t do it in the Core library. When I close the HiHat tight the core library registers the CC properly, but the Rock Warehouse seems to treat one of the higher values as a “2”. To make sure it wasn’t the VH-10 I tried the core library, and it was fine. To take it a step further, I set up a MIDI monitoring tool and put it side by side to the Superior Drummer MIDI message tool running at the same time and ONLY closed and opened the hi-hat controller. The images will be explanatory. File names are the library used. Left side of pictures is the 3rd party MIDI monitor tool and right side is SD3’s MIDI monitor.
Support responded:
“Mapping presets can help transform incoming MIDI into new MIDI notes that SD3 will use for its layout. Are you using a MIDI mapping layout right now? The active preset, if available, can be found in the MIDI-in/E-drums area.”
I responded:
I have the TD17 module local turned off and have the driver setting set to “Vendor” as suggested when using SD3. I have the MIDI-in/E-Drums settings set to use the Roland TD17 module. This seems to only happen when I load the Rock Warehouse SDX. Just to give you a little more info. If I press the HiHat to a really tight position it actually plays the Open Hat. If I start to open the HiHat just enough to lower the MIDI message to 120ish and below it will start to play the closed sound. Hope this makes sense.
No response from support yet.
I have also attached the images I sent them.
Just posting it here to see what others have to say.
Thanks!
I can’t really help, other than to say I noticed the issue too, but never bother mentioning it as I don’t use the SDX.
It is a strange problem to describe. To me it seems that once the CC hits around the HH closed pedal stage, or perhaps between the tight and closed range (I think can vary with set up though?), it reverses and rapidly changes the CC the opposite way.
This is with a VH-10 as well, but plugged it to an eDRUMin. And yeah, doesn’t happen with any other library I have either.
ps. oh yeah! I forget about “contact support”. I’m not sure which is most appropriate, that or forums and for what problems.
This has been an issue for a few years now. I get the same deal with the TD27 and VH-14 (and the original VH-10). They’re aware but no fix yet.
Well…although it’s a bummer to have this issue, I’m relieved I’m not the only one. At least I know I’m not crazy.
Definitely not the only one. I carried rock warehouse over from sd2 and to be honest I don’t use it but it does come in handy for old recordings that I did. Anyway I set up a RW kit in sd3 and got exactly what you are experiencing with the hi hat. I’m using a vh12 so it sounds like it’s any hi hat. By the way it worked absolutely fine in sd2.
SD3 with older sdx,s plus Rooms of Hansa and Death & Darkness. Cubase and wavelab current versions. Roland TD50x using all trigger inputs for triggering SD3 only. Windows 11 computer. Various keyboards and outboard gear as well as VST instruments. Acoustic drums: Yamaha 9000 natural wood and Pearl masters. Various snare drums. RME BabyFace Pro FS and Adam A7X monitors

Ah. Thanks for that info. I also carried it over from SD2. I never used an e-kit until recently. If it’s from SD2, ToonTrack may not worry about fixing it.
Thanks to everyone for their replies and the additional info. I have sent support a link to this post.
Hello again! I did get some info back from support that may help if anyone is interested. Here is their response:
Sorry, we were able to reproduce the issue now. Sorry for the confusion. We will forward this to our programmers. We were able to find a workaround, try selecting the default hi-hat openness preset in the Midi In/E-Drums settings.

Good to see you got a response.

We were not able to find any bug report for this issue so we forwarded a new ticket to our development team for this so that they may investigate.
We did find a possible workaround that may be of use. Pick the default hi-hat openness preset in the E-Drums settings and the issue seems to go away.
