Benefits to both workflows, though I lean towards keeping midi in EZ so you can continue to utilize it’s editing features/tools.

Not sure exactly what you mean by “line up”. Consider checking out this video.

Hi, Shootie. I thought that the measure a part is created on in EZKeys 2 was not appearing in the same spot on the Logic timeline, but I think I was looking at two different parts. I thought that a part, like a verse, would be created in EZKeys 2, and then be dragged to the timeline. Once these separate parts are in Logic, I would use Logic’s arrangement features to move them around. Now I am thinking that the whole song’s parts for this particular instrument is done inside of EZKeys 2. Does this sound about right?

I can’t truly understand your explanation. But here’s an opinion…

If using the arrangement features in Logic is a go-to workflow for you so much that you’re willing to deal with this situation, then you need to figure out this issue on your own for “your” workflow. You can post a vid or screenshot, and I could express a stronger opinion if you wish. A lot of people insist on dragging the midi out to their DAW. Most do it out of old habits. Few do it because the DAW actually offers something that EZ cannot, like faster arrangements with the other tracks in your DAW. So think about your reasoning.

I leave the midi in EZ. If I need to rearrange my entire DAW session, I don’t mind doing it twice, once for my tracks in my DAW, and once for my midi in EZ… for me it’s worth the convenience of keeping the midi where I prefer it.

There’s no right or wrong answer if you have a reason to do it one way or another. If you want to see workflows of building out songs only in EZ’s Song Track but in a DAW, let me know.

I am not sure I understand it myself. I am trying to find the workflow that works best for me, and I am still pretty unfamiliar with the software. I suspect it is much easier than I think it is.

Thanks for your help, it is greatly appreciated!

As Shootie said, each workflow has its benefits and trade-offs. As you are trying to figure out what works best for you, you are going to have to be familiar with each software on a certain level. How do you want to arrange your songs? If you are looking to move a bunch of trucks around at the same time, using the arrangement track or markers within logic, then it might not be beneficial to keep the MIDI in EZK2. However, the trade-off will be that you won’t be able to leverage some of the features available within EZK2. Thus you need to figure out what works best for you.

Hi, Jordan. I think the best way to go would be to work within EZKeys. As you said, I would be able to take advantage of the unique features within it. Thanks for your help!

Drag the progression into Logic where you want it to be.  If the progression doesn’t fit the bar, click either “option” or “command”, i forget which, and while holding down either “option” or “command”, click on the bottom right of the midi containing the chord progression in Logic and drag it to fit the number of bars you want.  You will see some parallel lines running vertically where your mouse is located in the bottom right corner if you have done this right.  Option or Command is what you click in Mac.  Use the equilavent commands if you are in windows.   If done correctly, this will time stretch the bar to fit the progression without altering it.

That works if you want a time compress or expand a region. However, in the case of MIDI, dragging a four bar region from EZ Keys to Logic will still give you four bars on Logic’s timeline.
