Hi,
Maybe I’m missing something, but usually in programs like SD3 (BFD3 for example) the user gets the exact placement of notes within the time grid of Bar.Beat.Subdivision. I can’t seem to find this information when I interact with a midi note in SD3’s midi editor.
Is this time placement information also available in SD3? I might just not know where to look.
Thank you,
Andy
Hi Andy,
the Grid Editor has Grid steps from 1/1 down to 1/64 with triplets in between. The Default is that the Grid resolution adjusts to Zoom level, which means you get a finer Grid resolution the more you Zoom in. This can be turned off, if you prefer. You can also toggle the Snap off (keyboard shortcut: ‘G’) to place notes in between Grid lines.

Thanked by: Scott EshlemanHi John,
Thank you for your reply.
I’m not sure you answered the question I had. I understand how the Grid Editor and the Grid steps work.
Let me rephrase my question this way: If I wanted to put a kick at a very specific place that is not covered by a rhythmic subdivison of triplets or 1/64 like 1|1|053. How would I do that? There seems to be no indication of placement in the bar|beat|subdivision format.
Please see attached picture on how BFD3 gives the exact location of the midi note in the bar|beat|16th|subdivision format.
Pretty much every midi based software has a variation on that.
Thank you,
Andy
OK, you do not wish to be able to place a note off-grid (which is easy with ‘Snap’ off), you want the info of the exact location (Bars/Beats/Ticks) of a selected hit, whether or not on the Grid?
If so, that is not a feature in SD3 but in most DAWs, as you point out. You can always make a request for such a feature in the ‘Requests & Feedback’ section.

John
