Hello everyone. I’m very new to trying to track MIDI drums, so there’s probably a best practice that I’m missing out on, but I’m having difficult searching Google for how to go about my situation.
So, I’m looking to create a remix of an existing song. I know the BPM is 125, and the time signature is 4/4. I have this both set on my project file in Reaper, and my song track in EZDrummer 3. I have the song inserted into my reaper track, and of course, the song doesn’t match the reaper track for some reason. Whatever, maybe I could work with that.
Now, I found that if I take that song I want to remix, and upload it into bandmate, I found that EZDrummer made a full song drumline that matched the beat and tempo of the song perfectly. So great! I can take the line it made, and just make my adjustments to my vision for the remix. However, if I take that auto-made drum line and drop it into the song track, when I play the reaper file with it, suddenly the drum no longer lines up with the song like it did in bandmate.
So I’m pretty sure there’s some assumption I’m making that doesn’t accurately reflect how this stuff works, but why would it lineup fine in bandmate, but not standalone on the reaper timeline? Does bandmate make microadjustments to match fluctuations in the beat of what I upload to it? Any advice?
Doh! Nevermind. This wasn’t an EZDrummer issue, but an “I don’t know how to use Reaper, lol” issue. I didn’t realize that if you import a track into Reaper, and THEN change the project’s BPM, it will manipulate the tracks you imported to account for the BPM change. I had initially imported the song I want to remix when I still had the project at 120BPM, and only remembered to change it to 125 after the import. So the BPM of the song got skewed.
Now the drums line up great. Not my finest moment I’ll say.
