One day SD3 works perfectly fine, the next day It freezes my DAW (Cakewalk by Bandlab) and I’m unable to close or generate a crash dump, and it also freezed at the title screen on standalone (it only says loading) so I can’t generate a dump file either. I’ve reinstalled it and it still crashes, I can’t drag and drop the VST into the daw, I can’t open standalone, and the Product manager says all the correct paths for sound files.
When it freezes on Cakewalk it gets to “loading synth data for Superior Drummer 3…” then immediately freezes. When trying to open standalone it freezes on the logo screen.
I want to reinstall this again, and for some random reason it seams absolutely nobody has had this issue, so I need clarification. How to I do a complete wipe and reinstall of SD3? The way I tried it last time it kept the .dll from cakewalk and the standalone app, yet deleted and reinstalled the core files. I need this to work or else I’m completely screwed.
Hi,
I would say that you start with Uninstalling using the Product Manager, then Search your system for ‘Superior Drummer 3.dll’ and delete all entries that show up.
You can check the ‘C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Toontrack\’, ‘C:\Program Files\Common Files\Toontrack\’, ‘C:\Program Files\Toontrack\’ and the ‘(User)\AppData\Roaming\Toontrack\’ locations for remnant files if you wish.
Then start over and make sure that you do not manually move or copy any files post installation, like e.g. the .dll file.

In addition to the above the OP may also want to think about taking a trip through the Windows Registry to remove any leftover SD3 stuff.

Thanked by: ThisDude123I deleted everything, removed SD3 .dll from anywhere I could find, removed original path, deleted it from the registry too, restarted the PC, reinstalled all packs and SD3 standalone, it still crashes at startup screen. For comparison EZDrummer2 works perfectly fine, on both DAW and standalone.
I opened task manager to see what its even doing and uses 78mb of Memory, and no CPU or Disk usage. I clicked “create dump file” on the Task Manager for SD3 and it even crashes notepad when I try to open that.
I’m very confused and don’t know what to do anymore.

You just have to be careful and make a copy before editing.

Thanked by: ThisDude123YES. It turns out one of the registry’s was corrupted, I missed 3 files, I deleted them and it started up normally again. No I have another problem, It opens in standalone just fine, using the EZDrummer Library Paths, However now when I install the Core SD3 Library, it immediately freezes again.
OK, I fixed it in a very weird way. I opened SD3 standalone and kept it open as the library installed. Once it finished installing I set it as a new path, it took 10 minutes to add, and it works now.
Thanks for the help in registry and how to delete everything.
OK, great to hear you got it working, I’m just puzzled as to why you had to go through so much trouble on your system.
Would you say you have a standard Windows 10 setup? Or do you have some customisations/localisations? What is your hardware setup?
Not sure what I’m fishing for but just anything that could point to the strange behaviour.

It does seem strange. Like his having to have SD3 open while installing the core library? Didn’t think you could do that. There is something definitely odd about the OP’s setup. Like you said it could be a customized Windows setup. Maybe he’s running stuff from Black Viper’s site? https://www.blackviper.com/service-configurations/black-vipers-windows-10-service-configurations/
Unless you keep your head on your shoulders mucking about under the hood in Windows can make things run really strange. Been there/done that.

Sorry I did not see this reply.
I have windows 10 home edition. My library is a external HDD path. Hardware setup is just 2 speakers, an Alesis V61, and a Scarlett 2i2.
My best guess is randomly it loses where the path was, and crashes trying to load the core library. When I turn off the External drive, it loads fine, but then I turn the HDD back on and set the path again. That is the only weird part of the setup probably

Superior Drummer 3 version: 3.3.6
Operating system: Windows 10
What connection is your external drive using? If it’s USB turn off ALL power savings measures in Windows Control Panel especially for USB ports. By default, even on a desktop computer, Windows is set to turn off the USB ports after awhile.
