My studio computer is a MAC so please forgive my ignorance and clarify “multimedia shuttle functions“…
Are these functions/buttons or your keyboard? mouse? controller surface?
    Thanks.

I would guess it depends on what (kind of) audio driver you are using in SD3.

I’m not sure why you are concerned about the audio driver. In my mind that has nothing to do with the media control. The audio device/driver streams the audio signal, not shuttle commands. Personally this I think is a bug in windows itself, just like the dictation function that continually fails after five or six uses. To restart dictation you must go and kill the hidden process, then restart dictation, and you better be using a microphone that has a lot of gain. Camera mics don’t cut it.
I can see why you would want to use the shuttle functions of the multimedia key controller to operate your play pause functions within SD3. However it just does not work. And just like the disappearing record function when tracker is minimized. Click once and it works, second time no work regardless of mouse or keyboard input. But this only happens if the tractor is minimized. No issues with record if you open up that box.
My ex was a professional visual C++ programmer. So I am a little bit familiar.

    PREVIOUS ; PLAY/PAUSE ; NEXT , stop, volume, mute.
I have 3 controls, 1 that is built into my keyboard and two USB units.
I do a fair bit of practice by playing along with videos from YouTube. It is nice to have a media controller right beside my drum kit. Also the one on my desk saves me from reaching over my keyboard to operate multimedia.

    All
This behavior is random. It will happen within 3 seconds or it will happen after three days. And as I said before it appears to be random because I will be playing along with a video and then go to the interface to change a something, then back to playing, and I may or may not have control of my multimedia.
Yesterday it happened every time superior drummer had focus. Today I cannot get it to do it. No reboots no restarts nothing. No starting new programs etc. No quitting programs. Alt-tab that’s it.

Everyone thank you so much for your help.

    Cheers Ken

Some audio drivers are multi client. Some are not. My RME drivers are. Not sure what audio interface you are running.

    Please explain multi-client.

I am running a Roland studio capture 16-10 for recording in Cubase. Cubase loves this interface, I keep the control panel open at all times as I can see where the faders are who is active from an input point of view also my panning etc.
I am running my focusrite 18i20 as the audio interface for SD3 analog back to a set of channels on the 1610 and digital to my motu 828 for routing in my studio.(digital in, analog out to the speakers) Audio-Routing
I originally bought the Moto to replace the Roland but it does not like any DAW connected to it nothing but static literally snap crackle and pop over the speakers at random intervals. Worst $900 I ever spent.

Currently the 1610 is having issues with balance. I can send it back to the manufacturer and they will rebuild it for $350 you can add a second interface to it and expand the number of inputs however it is no longer manufactured.Roland-1610-x-2 I can get an 8 input device from Roland and hook it up as shown in the drawing but that’s a $900 experiment because I don’t know if it will work.

The media controls tend to use the default audio device and not asio.

A multi client audio driver is one that allows for multiple programs to share the same audio device. IOW, YouTube and Cubase.

But after re-reading your original post, it seems like this works as expected. But you’re saying the the Cubase transport (play /pause) is taken over when S3 is in focus. It’s that what you’re saying? And you are running S3 as a Plugin in cubase and not as standalone? Do you have shortcuts turned on or off in the S3 General settings menu?
