I wish aliens could give me better download speeds (grrrrrrrr)
After the complete success of “Fields of Rock” and the excellent integration, I decided to pull the trigger on this. I’ve been watching the vids for a while and even though I’m not really “metal”, it still seems like a terrific kit to have.
Oh well, I’ll wait the 13 hours (ah tomorrow, insert Annie song here)
Don’t blame Toontrack for your supposedly poor download speeds. Get with you ISP on this. Are you using a direct wired connection or wireless? 13 hours for a download? Unless you’re on 56K dialup that kind of slow speed isn’t happening.

Hey Quark! Making any Latinum? (grin)
It’s a LAN. But yeah, they want booku bucks for an upgrade, and 99.9% of the time, what I have is fine.
Not sure what “blaming toontrack” is about, I’m just happy to get on board with the new alien site 🙂
Actually, I just thought of a “question” question, should I think about going to 64 GB of ram vs. 32?
32 should be fine but it depends on what you are doing. If you are running a DAW with lots of instruments that load to ram then yes. If it’s sd3 then big kits are only about 4gig but can be as big as you want if you keep adding pieces. I use 32gig which is fine for me but I know people who work with orchestration can have hundreds of tracks so need a lot of memory.
SD3 with older sdx,s plus Rooms of Hansa and Death & Darkness. Cubase and wavelab current versions. Roland TD50x using all trigger inputs for triggering SD3 only. Windows 11 computer. Various keyboards and outboard gear as well as VST instruments. Acoustic drums: Yamaha 9000 natural wood and Pearl masters. Various snare drums. RME BabyFace Pro FS and Adam A7X monitors

Thanked by: chris harbinThanks, yeah it’s kinda a passing thought. For me I’d have to do DDR-5 (Ryzen 7900x) so a bit more expensive.
I am hitting around 40% which my projects with F.O.R. so it’s no big.

Who wants big bucks for an upgrade? Upgrade of what? More ram won’t help your download speeds. For that matter what is your actual problem here? Your answers aren’t making any sense.

Hay Chris
Have same issues with download speeds here.
I have a buddy that has that new satellite thing and is getting download speeds of 200+ and even with two people streaming for their work, the $1800.00 equipment cost and a bill of $125.00 per month seems a bit high to me. Considering they only use about 15% of that.
My 15dn/10up and unlimited data cost me $45/month. This opens up my budget for SD3 add-ons.
Computer memory upgrades will not help your internet speeds BUT will certainly be beneficial for your system as a hole. When the OS runs out of memory it “swaps out” memory to the Hard Drives. So if your machine doesn’t have to do that, all the better for SD3 and any other program that is running like your DAW.
I’m running an I9/10 core hyper-thread with 32 gig (ddr-5) onboard with appropriate cooling and NO problems. My previous machine was an I5/16gig and it struggled to keep up. It finally smoked and i blame it on CPU size because it was always pinned.
Moral of the story: buy the biggest engine you can (CPU) with an appropriate gas tank (memory) for the job at hand. The bigger the trunk-space the better (HDD)
If your driving a laptop well do the best you can…..
Cheers

Just like money you can never have too much ram. I regularly use Death & Darkness with the DW kit and load everything into ram which takes over 13 gig. I don’t like to stream things if I can help it. And also regularly bang right into 32 gig so the 48 gig I have installed helps big time.
Gigabit internet on Verizon FIOS is the way I run. Love the fast download speeds. All wired; no wireless anything. Satellite internet is way slower and not dependable. At least I no longer have to deal with 56k dialup.

That meant that you were up for 56 hours to download 1 meg of text file. And DON’T go over the 2meg limit cause that will cost you BIG dollars. It was bad enough we were paying $79.00 for 2 meg/month YES I SAID IT. “per month”, and that was when the internet wasn’t even available across Canada. Only Nova Scotia and Ontario.

Oh and that was on my intel 8086 machine. 8bit buss not 16,32 or 64.
