In the pre-EZMix era I used to mix 1.) the drumkit, then 2.) the bass guitar, 3) guitars and finally 4) the vocals. When the mix was good enough for my ears I would then worrry about the mastering process. So after the mix come the master…
Today I use EZMix a lot and I often use the “Basic Master” on the stereo out channel, it really gives the song that extra-extra power. At first I mixed the songs like I did before and then put the master effect on the bus.
This last song I recorded, I mixed the drums and bass etc. and it all sounded very good. Then I realized I had on the mastering effect all the time. Now I am asking myself, whoy should I or should I not use the master effect right from the start in the mixing process. It all comes down on having a great final result, does it not?
What are your thoughts?
