Let’s talk about this item in the latest SD3 update:
I stopped the installation immediately when I saw this item due to concerns that my projects and kits will be audibly affected after updating. I use the EQ and dynamics effects in SD3 extensively. Can anyone comment as to whether steps were taken to ensure backwards compatibility with pre-3.3.6 settings? What about Toontrack and Producer presets that were made for SD3 and SDXs? For example, Andy Sneap and Bob Rock EQ’d their presets when the EQ nodes were “incorrect”. Are they going to sound different now?
Any help would be appreciated. Sticking with 3.3.5 until further info is available.
Hi,
I understand your concern. There are no factory presets that are noticeably affected by this fix. Most presets use slope 6 dB/oct, which is totally unaffected. That is also the default, so it’s likely the most used slope type in users’ EQ inserts as well. Even in cases where 12 or 24 are used, the curves are usually still very similar to earlier. Only very low Q values could give a noticeable difference. We decided to fix this bug this because at low enough Q values, the level would start to rise uncontrollably, which could cause damage to ears and speakers.
