I have a 2022 Mac Studio and run the most recent version of macOS Monterey, and SD3 is wonderful. It’s been a few months since Ventura was released and I always wait a while before updating and I wonder if anyone else is successfully running SD3 with Ventura at this point? Any issues? Thanks!
Hi Nate,
I have been running Ventura on a Mac Studio with SD3 with no problems.
FWIW, I have 2 external NVme Thunderbolt SSDs to boot from. I always update on one of those to test before applying it to the internal system drive. These days an external SSD is fairly inexpensive and having a test system can be a real life saver.
Mac Studio M1 Max, RAM 64 GB, 1TB Drive, OSX 12.x/13.x and Windows 10 (VM)
DAW: Studio One Pro (always up to date)
DTX Express III (Extreme triggers), Nektar LX88
OWC Thunderbay Mini (4 X 1TB Sata SSD), Express 4M2 (4 X 2TB M.2 SSD), Envoy Express (1TB M.2 SSD)
Presonus Quantum, Faderport & Faderport 8
Black Lion Sparrow Mk2 A/D, FMR-RNP-RNC, MIDI Xpress 128, BM5A, KRK VXT4, Equator D5
2020 Macbook Pro 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD Audio(mobile rig)
That’s really helpful, thank you! I’m reassured that the specs of your machine from your signature are extremely similar to mine!

So you can boot from an external drive with a M1 Mac then? Anything to look out for?
cheers

Yes, I have one external SSD (SATA) and one external NVme (M.2) with Monterey and Ventura installed respectively. The SATA unit is a leftover from the previous iMac host, but it works ok for testing. The other NVme drives are used for samples.
I’ve only ever used the thunderbolt ports, haven’t tried running off the USB-C ports on the front and I don’t believe you can boot off USB-2.
