Ezdrummer bandmate tempo does not match the tempo of my song in studio one 5

I’m using Studio One 5 as my DAW.  I recently purchased EZdrummer 3.  The bandmate option is great but the tempo is off.  In Ezdrummer, the tempo starts off correct but then changes as the song goes on.  I have also tried dragging the ezdrummer midi file into Studio One 5 as a drum track and the tempo is still off.  Notes:  The tempo at the bottom right corner in Studio One for my song says 130,  If I check the tempo for each individual track, they all say 120.  When using bandmate, the suggested tempo says 90.  I’m sure this is the issue but changing the tempos in any of these areas just messes up the song.  What do I need to do to fix this?

    Hi there,

Studio One and EZD should both have the same tempo as in the screen print below as well as have “Follow Host” enabled.

    Is this the case?

Regardless of the original tempo of the EZD groove, they should conform to the Studio One tempo.

    EZD-BM-Tempo

The tempos do not match and I don’t see a follow host option on either Studio one or ezdrummer.,,

That shouldn’t matter, could you post a screen print of EZDrummer 3.

Just to be clear, you are using EZDrummer 3 as a plug-in within Studio one, yes?

And yes, I’m using ezdrumner3 as a plug in but I guess I’m doing something wrong.

The screen print looks like the standalone version. There should be a “follow host” button preceding the transport controls.

How are you inserting EZDrummer into a Studio One instrument track?

I’m creating an ezdrummer drum track in studio one, then dragging and dropping the created band mate midi file from ezdrummer onto the studio one track.

I have tried converting my song into an mp3 and dragging/dropping into ezdrummer and the timing is still off.  Starts off fine then drifts apart.

    Hi there,

Ok, could be that it’s 7:30am here on the west coast and I haven’t had any espresso yet, but I am confused as to what you’re trying to accomplish. Believe me, my brain is not optimized at this time of day.

How about a quick rundown on how I have used the bandmate feature.

Start a new Studio One (S1) session, create an audio track and an instrument track with EZD3 inserted on it. Set the tempo in S1. Enable metronome. Record a guitar track. Usually direct, the cleaner the better, using the metronome as a guide.

Drag and drop that audio track to my desktop, open finder, open EZD3 in S1, goto the bandmate tab and drag the audio guitar file to it. Usually that’s all I need to do to get a good starting point for a drum track. If the tempo isn’t detected by bandmate then it can be changed in the bandmate header bar.

From there I can drag the generated drum midi to the EZD3 song track or to midi track in S1.

Have you watched any videos on the bandmate feature?

I’m in Orlando so I’ve been up for a while so I understand.  Here’s what I’m trying to do and I was told I could with ezdrummer.  I have already recorded an entire song, including vocals in studio one 5.  The original track, the piano, was recorded using a metronome.  The other tracks were then recorded and added to my song until it was complete.  I was told I could then create a new track, using ezdrummer to add the drums to the entire song. I’ve created the ezdrummer track in studio one. It then opens the ezdrummer window and I select band mate.  It then says to drag audio here(this might be where my issue is).  I don’t know how to drag my audio tracks from studio one into band mate so I created an mp3 of my song so I could drag it into band mate.  Once I find a drum track I like that ezdrummer creates for my song, I’m dragging the MIDI file it created onto the ezdrummer track in studio one.  Then the timing is way off.

my other issue I’m sure is this:  on the bottom right hand corner in studio one, the tempo says 130.  If I click on individual tracks, they say 120 or 125 depending on which one I choose.  When I drag the track into ezdrummer, it says my tempo is 90.  If I change any of these tempos, the song gets all messed up, even if I make them all the same.  Vocals start before they should, drums are way to fast etc.

I also still can’t find the follow host you mentioned.

This software sounded great, supposed to be easy but it’s been very frustrating so far.  I’ve called friends, watched videos etc and can’t get anywhere.  I’m thinking it’s a studio one issue and maybe something easy to fix but what do I know…lol.

    thanks for your help.

    Hi there,

I just created a small session to go over the basics. Wouldn’t be a bad idea if you did the same. Then you should be able to apply what we go over here to your full session.

(apologize if you know some of this, but it’s hard to know where someone’s knowledge level is so I just start at the beginning)

So I tracked a few bars of guitar as audio and a few bars of MIDI (EZKeys) in Studio One V6 (S1).

Then I dragged EZDrummer 3 to an empty space in the S1 Arrange view. This creates an instrument track.

    Create-Instrument-Track

On the right side of the S1 Arranger select “Files”  tab. (If you don’t see it enable Browse on the lower right of S1)

Drag the audio file into from the Arranger into a location on your PC that shows up under the Files tab. (I am using desktop to simplify things… hopefully)

    Drag-to-Desktop

    1) Open the EZD3 plugin by clicking the keyboard on the EZDrummer 3 track and select the bandmate tab.

    2) Use “Select File” and navigate to where ever you dragged the audio file (Desktop in my case)

    Select-Saved-File

    Select-saved-file-Browser

At that point you should be asked what tempo you want, although it should default to whatever tempo S1 is set at.

You should also be presented with a selection of loops to try. (It shouldn’t matter what tempo they are defined at in the EZD3 browser, they should conform to the tempo of the session.

    Done
    Hope some of this helps

BTW I just discovered recently that I can drag audio directly to EZD3 bandmate from S1, however it may be just a Mac/S1 V6 thing as I have not been able to do it before.

Hello.  Thanks for all you sent me.  I’ve already done all of that and the tempo is set in EZdrummer3 to 130 which is the tempo in S1 but the drums are playing way too fast for the song.  In S1. it says the tempo is 130 which I don’t think is correct.  My issue seems to be that at the bottom of S1, it says the tempo is 130.  When I open each track separately, I get anywhere from 120-125 as tempos.  When I drag my song to EZdrummer as a whole song(from the mp3 I created, ezdrummer says the tempo is 90.  This seems to be the problem.  Why there are so many different tempos showing, I don’t know but they aren’t syncing.  Like I said before, any time I adjust any of the tempos to try and match them, it messes up the entire song.  Vocals start before they should, different instruments are off etc.

Do you have any other things I can try?
