    Hello,

I’m going to ask this. What mode are you running superior drummer in? Standalone? Plug-in?

Some basic information  would be nice to get help from us. after all, we are not sitting in your studio. From what I can gather, you are basically trying to create a midi file in superior drummer, and then create an audio file from that midi file.

In the user midi directory, there are two files created. “X.mid” and “X .midtrackinfo”. with the name of the midi track that you dropped  into user midi.
If you were to create several midi files, regardless of input method, and save each one of those files as the file named “. mid” format.” and then open song creator you could create a song example your custom intro, your custom first verse your second verse your chorus copy of your first verse another course, and then a different chorus and then outtake. This, of course creates the entire song.

If all you are trying to accomplish, is creating an audio file from the midi file, do that from within your daw just mute all the audio files, and record the output of the midi track. Some dogs are a little bit trickier than others to do that with and of course it depends on your hardware that you have my particular hardware has what they call a monitor which is basically a return and I can take that as an input and record whatever I’m sending out the back end of the daw

In my file manager high, highlight the file and press Ctrl C to copy the file name, then I export the audio file and go to the file manager and rename the file by pressing Ctrl V paying attention to the name, and back, spacing the “.mid”  out of the file name. Then I hit enter and  avewalla   ZYX.wav

I would suggest doing all MIDI work in your daw considering what you want to do.

My goal is to create a file with a unique name to be exported as an audio file from SD3.  This is my process:

    1. Drag a groove into the Song Track.
    2. Double click the groove and open it in the Grid Editor and make changes there.
    3. Drag the changed groove into the User Midi window.
    4. Once the groove is in the User Midi window, change the name of the groove to a unique name.
    5. Then drag this renamed groove into the Song Track.  (Please note: the unique name change does not show when the groove is dragged to the Song Track.  Instead, its original file name such as “Hi Hat Tight Edge” shows on the groove.)
    6. Highlight the groove in the Song Track.
    7. Then go to the “Track” tab and select Bounce.  In the Bounce window, go to advanced and select “Bounce Output Channels.”  Then select “Bounce.”
    8. After the Bounce is complete I go to the folder housing the bounced audio file.  In the folder is an audio file named “Out_1+2.wav.”

Throughout this process the unique name I gave the file is not retained in the Song Track or in the output audio file.  This makes it more difficult to manage this unique file.  Plus, then when I import the audio file into the DAW, I need to change the file name because “Out_1+2.wave” is not very descriptive for me.

Is there a way to retain a unique created file name in the Song Track and exported audio file?  If so, please let me know what you would suggest.

    Thanks!

    Hi there,

Hope I am understanding your question.

The bounce (Output Channels) process uses the mixer output channel names, so when you set the mixer to multichannel mode, you’ll see a number of channels all starting with Out_. Rename the output channels uniquely and the files will be named to your specs. For example I renamed “Out 1/2” to “kick”, after bouncing the file is called Out_kick.wav.

    Hello,

    I attempted your suggestion above.

I set the mixer to multichannel mode.  This resulted in a display of 13 Out channels in the mixer window starting with Out 1/2 and ending with Out 25/26.  I renamed Out 1/2 to HT.

Then I completed the bounce.  In the Bounce folder I ended up with Out_7+8.wav, Out_11+12.wav, and Out_13+14.wav.  But, there was no Out_HT.

    Perhaps I’m doing something wrong.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

What do you have routed to Out_HT?

When you play the track (not bounce) is there any output through Out_HT?

    New development.

Now, when I set the mixer setting to Apply Stereo Outputs and change the Out 1/2 to a unique name the bounced audio ends up with that unique name.

So, I think it is now working.

    Thanks for your help!

I tried my damnedest to replicate this issue, and no matter what I turned on or off stereo mono multi channel or not couldn’t do it. I even played with 23 outputs and gave them all goofy names if no audio on the channel no, output created. I made such a mess of my own put sections. I had to remember not to save and restart using my default profile

it could be specific to Apple computers as a friend of mine had bought a new hardware mixer that supported multiple outputs, and we struggled to get the Apple OS to allow the multiple outputs.

Now, I am going to expand the question. I do a lot of custom temple work within my Daw. I also record my basic drum midi in the daw. If I take that midi track that I created and drag it into superior drummer, I do not get the custom tempo, and if I were to export audio, I have severe timing problems because the export uses the temple set in superior drummer. This is why I always have recorded the audio from the drum track with all other tracks, muted to get my audio for the drums.
Using this method would not only give me named files, but also the ability to separate the audio via output names set up in superior mixer, section, example, hats, symbols, toms, snares.
    any ideas?

    Cheers K

When I recently began participating in this discussion I was concerned that there was something I was not aware of regarding this process and needed to learn more about.

One of the things I learned was that the process of bouncing files from SD3 to the DAW could benefit from some simplification.  For example, it would be very helpful if there was a location in the bounce window where one could enter a unique file name for the bounced audio file.  That would help take some of the mystery out of this process.

The current automated file name process produces a file name that is of little help when importing the file into the DAW.  Having a file name entry location in the bounce window would help clarify this step.

Another related issue would be retaining unique file names when dragging files from the User Midi window into the Song Track.  So, if one created a unique file name in the User Midi window, it would be retained when dragged to the Song Track in preparation for bouncing.  Then, ideally it would be retained in the bounce window as well.

I hope that these suggestions can be considered in the next SD3 update.  It would sure help in the work flow.  Thanks!

Why bounce in SD3? Why not just create a bunch of audio tracks in your daw and record the SD3 audio output there? That way you can name the tracks anything you want in your daw.

    I have a question.

If you are Recording and bouncing and doing all that fun stuff that we’ve been talking about, how is the tempo of the track dealt with SD3.
We have a really good drummer, but his audio beats still vary. So if your average beats per minute is 87+ or -3% and you do an auto temple detection in say Cubase, how does superior drummer handle this?from what I can see in sd3,  you’ve got a choice of one temple that’s it.
This is why I only use SD3 as the audio generator.
