How can I mute (dampen) (stop the ring) on tom sounds to get sounds like Ringo’s dry toms?
In my Roland TD20X kit I can apply varying degrees of felt and tape to the toms to provide those dry sounds, but can find no way to do this in SD3. The closest I have been able to get with SD3 is to apply ‘gate’ plugins outside of SD3.

Use the envelope property to shape the sound. You can adjust the release for a more natural short tom decay. To add a bit more realism, shift the pitch approx -0.02 cents as the tom is decaying.

Thanked by: Scott EshlemanThat is great advice Jord. I didn’t realise that was possible. Can’t wait to try it tomorrow. A nice Xmas present!
Happy Christmas.

Thanked by: Bear-Faced CowIn addition you could try to increase the attack time slightly. Ony a few ms but this tames the attack sound, a little bit like dampening an acoustic drum.
For the tea towel effect, then yes, increase in attack time.
I would leave the pitch envelope alone in that case.
