What Device is Windows using for audio.

What Device is EZD3 using for audio (settings>AudioMidiSetup>Device). Raise your Audio Buffer size here to get rid of audio glitches/issues.

It’s hard to know what you mean by Computer Speakers and IEMs, they are probably the same thing if they are plugged into your motherboard. Or maybe you’ve excluded mentioning some other equipment you’re using to drive the IEMs?

At the end of the day, as you’ll see many threads on this, you’ll be advised to get an audio interface to clear up problems. I recommend diving right into that instead of figuring this out. It’s rare edrummers can get by without one.

    Thanks for the response.

Windows is just using the onboard audio. I didn’t have anything else to choose from.

EZD3 is using the ASIO4ALL v2 as the device under AudioMidiSetup>Device

What I mean by PC speakers is that I have my IEMs plugged into the headphone jack of my PC and all PC sounds run through them except EZD3. Those sounds are playing through the speakers on my PC and not through the IEMs. It’s really weird. I’ve never had something like that happen before.

I have an audio interface, but I thought it might be getting in the way. It’s a Behringer U-Control. When I use that, I just get the sounds from my drum module and not EZD3.

It’s been a while since I used ASIO4All, I would assume the output routing would be in that program when it comes to where to output the sound. Though if Windows is occupying your headphone output, it may not want to give it up for ASIO to use.

ASIO drivers are great, not but that friendly. They typically only want to take care of one task at a time. Your Windows audio being one task, and EZD3 being the other. That’s two different things. Hopefully someone with more ASIO4ALL experience will chime in. You could, as a test, change your OS driver, and see if it frees up your headphone output to ASIO4ALL. Just theories at this point from me though.

If latency starts becoming an issue, you may want to start using the Audio Interface.

    Wish I could do more.

Thanks so much for all the help. I haven’t even gotten to the latency part since I can’t actually hear the drums through my IEMs. I’m using ASIO just because I saw it recommended for Alesis drums. Do you happen to know of another I should try?

On A PC, not using an audio interface, I believe ASIO4ALL is the way to go to get the lowest latency.  You may be able to figure this out, I just don’t have that setup. SO hang tight, this is a new thread here, someone may swing in.

A higher end audio interface comes with serious software and sorts these problems out, but it comes with a price. I use RME for example which comes with the TotalMix software. You may want to state exactly what your goal is. If it’s writing and recording music, a DAW can get you to the next step. Reaper for example has a free lenient trial and is very affordable. If you want to jam to Youtube videos out of your browser, it’s gets a little complicated.

If you haven’t checked out the first page or so of the ASIO4ALL manual, you may be missing how to assign outputs.

Thank you again. It’s definitely related to ASIO. I tried the other drivers and they worked, but the latency was awful. For some reason, ASIO will only play through my speakers even with my IEMs in the headphone jack. Seems pretty weird. I went through the manual and nothing is mentioned about this. My headphone jack isn’t in the list of devices when I open the ASIO settings, which makes sense of course. Realtek Audio is and it seems that should work fine. So, I really have no idea why ASIO won’t play through my headphone jack that my IEMs are plugged in to.

As far as audio interfaces go, I haven’t explored that much yet, but I downloaded Cakewalk. I found where to set up MIDI devices in it and my kit shows up, but when I select it I get an error saying there’s not enough memory. My PC has plenty of memory so I don’t get why it’s saying that. I’ve heard of Reaper and it’s certainly affordable. I’ll download the trial and see if that will work. Hopefully, I won’t get that memory error that’s in Cakewalk.

My goal here is to record drum parts that I then upload to Bandlab where I’m collaborating with friends. I’ve just been recording straight to a thumb drive on the drum module and then transferring those files to my PC. The drum sounds aren’t too great so I got EZD3.

Edit: I looked up the memory error. Apparently, it has to do with duplicate audio devices in my device manager. I removed them, but still am getting the same error. It’s getting late so I’ll give Reaper a shot tomorrow and I’ll email Cakewalk support to see if they can  help with the memory issue.

I installed Reaper and now have the ReaRoute ASIO driver in EZD3. I don’t know which ReaRoute output channels I’m supposed to use though. I tried all of them and I tried each individually. I don’t get any sound though. I can see the drums being hit in EZD3 though.

Well, with some more messing around, I got it to work. I had to choose WASAPI (Executive Mode) for the device type. Then, the output for my headphones worked. So, I think it’s working now 🙂
