(Disclaimer: I’m a noob when it comes to all of this stuff so this might be a stupid question lol.)
I have looked through the internet for days now and I am still unsure of how exactly I am supposed to connect my electronic drums to SD3 using an audio interface. I just want to use SD3 to replace the crappy sounds of my alesis with SD3’s sounds, however there is a big latency that I am told an audio interface could fix.
Could someone please tell me what I need to be looking for on an audio interface before I buy one, as well as how to connect my e drums to it and how to connect the audio interface to my laptop to work with SD3. Thank you.
Hi,
you need an audio interface with low latency drivers. RME, Focusrite, Presonus and Universal Audio are examples of companies making them.

That’s a lot of questions. I suggest a lot of reading on what midi is and how this works with audio etc as it will be a learning curve.
I don’t know what Alesis you have or if it has midi over usb? If it doesn’t have midi over usb then the audio interface will need to have midi interfaces as well. Basic instructions are: midi out of Alesis to midi in of audio interface. In sd3 settings choose the audio interface and the midi interface. Choose an edrum setting for your kit. Listen to the output from your audio interface.
SD3 with older sdx,s plus Rooms of Hansa and Death & Darkness. Cubase and wavelab current versions. Roland TD50x using all trigger inputs for triggering SD3 only. Windows 11 computer. Various keyboards and outboard gear as well as VST instruments. Acoustic drums: Yamaha 9000 natural wood and Pearl masters. Various snare drums. RME BabyFace Pro FS and Adam A7X monitors
I personally wouldn’t claim an audio interface can make it work until I knew you had decent enough computer specs. I recommend posting those as well.

Thanked by: BradI am using an alesis crimson pro 2. The module has a USB b output for MIDI. What kind of inputs and outputs would I be looking for on an audio interface for this kind of setup?

+1 on @shootie’s reply. A computer that doesn’t meet certain software and hardware specifications will be problematic, regardless of the interface.
