I haven’t tested this much yet, I’ve just tried exporting stems a few times. I believe you’re limited to stereo stem tracks. What individual stems are exported seems to depend entirely on what Preset you have selected. Some have more stems, some less. I believe it is as simple as that. As for making stems that are dry, a strong assumption is if you have the macro knobs to turn down, you can take away ‘those effects’. Luckily Reverb typically has it’s own channel in the mixer, so it would be easy just to exclude it if needed.

I think if you needed more control, besides going SD3, you may have to do some manual exporting. Even through I have 5 individual tom channels in a preset, it still exports them as a group bus. So I might have to export those individually using mute/solo like one would with EZD2.

That’s the best I have for you thus far. I’m sure one of the TT guys will correct me. They’re pretty good at swinging by if I’m off base. So do check back. If you notice something interesting, let me know.

    Hey Shootie,

Thanks for all you do. Love your great paced vids and in depth look at things. Thank you for this reply also. Yes a mono option would be nice.  You have suggested some great things to try and some I will have to get a better understanding of before I ask for any real help.

As I say I’m a Toontrack noob, but as I get deeper into it I’m quietly blown away. Will do some more experimenting. I leapt straight into using it for a song I’m working on and have, as a result, not really explored it all enough. As a songwriter it seems like such a great tool. I was drawn to Logic for its’ “Drummer” feature. Simply because it is simple and quick. I’ve never intended to use “Drummer” in a final output as such, but with EZ Drummer3 I’m starting to wonder if a virtual drummer could be used (for real).

    Cheers

    Thanks for saying!

For my standards, I have no problem taking Kick, Snare, Hat stems (for example) and just splitting them into mono and keeping just one side to mix. Or when it comes to toms (or whatever has been grouped together), I will solo a single Tom (whether on the Mixer tab if possible or turn down the other toms on the Drums tab), export that and just keep the side of the stereo file that the tom is panned more so to. Of course a lot of these stereo channel/busses work in stereo, so all set there.

These are my standards, so I have no issues. For someone who is a workflow purist, or for the person that needs audio stems that sound literally identical to what EZD was producing, it’s sometimes a tall order.

Just in case you may not realize, but you can also combine both Drummer & EZD3 in Logic. You don’t have to use Logic’s drum sounds with Drummer.

Jord, is it just a simple Midi-Out of Logic Drummer and EZ picks it up. Or maybe you have to deal with mapping as well?

Thanks and yes Jord, I have seen that. I definitely have a love hate relationship with Logic’s Drummer. More often than not my issue is with the limitations of what it plays rather than how it sounds. I am predominantly working in a Country type genre and find there is a very limited number of those type rhythms. Seeing the Toontrack kits and midi-packs had me like a kid in the candy store.
