Hi guys, here is an audio example with the issue that I explain in my before message : The audio file has a lot of harmonics or hisses. The library is Classic Rock (Pbass) and the preset is CLEAN DI PICK B.

Please listen with headphones. There are harmonics or whistles in the background.

You can tell me that this is part of the musical execution of the instrument, but I have a Pbass and doesn’t happen. For the rest, other VSTs on the market don’t have this type of modeling either (whistles), which otherwise affects a mix.

In case of using EQ I will cut the attack of the sound and it’s not my idea.

You may think that I’m exaggerating, but this result really surprises me for the price of the product and because in the audio file examples in the web page of Toontrack this problem is not appreciated.

Could someone tell me if this is OK or not? and if it’s a issue of the Ezbass or maybe from my System?

I use Logic Pro X 12.4, MacBook Pro M1, Monterrey 12.5 and my Audio Interface is Apogee Duet.

    Daniel,
This is my take if I understand which high harmonic frequencies you are talking about:

The mp3 you posted sounds natural to me for a bass with round wound strings and that is EQ’d to reduce the low end and emphasize more highs. Does the bass you are comparing it to have flat wound strings? That would make this P Bass sound much different from your Pbass instrument.

If you listen to the audio examples of this EBX on the Toontrack website there are a few examples in the Sounds (DI) category that sound like your example but have a lot more low end EQ’d in. This low end being more dominant takes some of the focus away from those high harmonics and sounds more balanced to me. But either way, those harmonics can be somewhat EQ’d out if you wish.

I actually love the sound of those harmonics when there is a bit more low end allowed to come through. Being an old prog rock guy in the 70’s those harmonics sound like the bass sounds I loved back in those days. Listen to Chris Squire (YES) or Greg Lake (ELP) and you will hear those harmonics in spades. (They both used Rickenbacker Basses which bring out those harmonics even more) But their bass also had more low end which “rounded out” (pun intended) the sound of their bass sound.

Thanks Mac for your reply. Really appreciate.

I don’t know if we are talking about of same frequency. I will be more specific: In the attached file you can note a Hiss like a resonance in second 2, second 6, second 9 and second 13 of the attached file. I suggest use headphone.

My strings in the real instrument Pbass that I have are Round Wound.

The other VSTs, like MODO BASS 2, they don’t have this hiss (or resonance) and of course, the example in the web page of TOONTRACK with the same preset (CLEAN DI PICK B) is perfect and I like it… I’m assume that there are no additional process (it’s a preset).

I’ve attache a midi file “Example.mid” if you or anyone can bounce a mp3 file with Classic Rock, preset CLEAN DI PICK B, and attach the file for check if the hiss go out or is the same. This will clarify if the origin is my system or Ezbass.

    Thanks!
