Thanks for mentioning this. I only have the core library right now; going to get Death & Darkness tomorrow so I’ll just have to deal with this. Would love to hear from one of the programmers as to why it’s this way.

I’ve been using this from the outset and have two expansions. You even have to go into the specific room in Hansa to get to a preset!

So I totally agree. Let us group presets how we like and sd3 can then choose the correct kit when we choose a preset. It’s a real pain trying to find a kit when you can’t remember what pack or part of a pack you created it in.

SD3 with older sdx,s plus Rooms of Hansa and Death & Darkness. Cubase and wavelab current versions. Roland TD50x using all trigger inputs for triggering SD3 only. Windows 11 computer. Various keyboards and outboard gear as well as VST instruments. Acoustic drums: Yamaha 9000 natural wood and Pearl masters. Various snare drums. RME BabyFace Pro FS and Adam A7X monitors

That’s weird that it happens in Hansa. I imagine it’s the same thing with D&D? What happens if you create a kit that’s a mix of a kit from say Hansa with some kit pieces from say Death? You’re in Hansa and use a kick from Death – does the preset get stored in Hansa? Or Death?

If you loaded Hansa, the preset would be stored with Hansa, regardless of the kit piece you imported. It has more to do with routings than anything else. A preset made in one library will not work with another library because of the difference in routings.

I was wondering if there was a technical limitation. Perhaps that is it.

However, if you have a user preset from a different library it should just switch to the library and load the preset when you select it.

Maybe to motivate Toontrack to address this, I’d like to point out that it makes a person reluctant to purchase more libraries since it makes it harder to keep track of your own customizations. 🙂

Does anyone know if you can make user presets a top-level library by changing Superior’s folder structure?

The preset could hold information on the library and therefore switch to that library though when chosen. I have kits using the sd3 library setting but then swapping out the drums to Hansa and the preset is in the sd3 library but of course with sd3 routing.

In a way SD3 gives a clue as to how to maybe solve this issue. Page 24 in the manual gives a clue. In the Drums and Mixer Presets tab there’s an option to ‘manage in Finder (Mac)’ or ‘manage in Explorer (Windows)’ What might work is to have duplicates of the presets in each of the folders done by working in either Finder (Mac) or Explorer (Win). Have actual duplicates in each and NOT use aliases or symlinks. Not a simple operation but it just might help out.

What I don’t know is do the presets make settings for a general setting like kick in level in say the core library or kick in in say Death & Darkness or whatever library? That is is it specific to a certain library or what?

That won’t work as expected. It will try to load the preset in the current library rather than switch libraries and could cause some unpredictabilities.

How do you know? Have you tried it? Just saying it won’t work without trying it doesn’t get it.

Of course I tried it! I’ve been using this software long enough to try many things people wouldn’t think of. 10 years of beta-testing their competitors has taught me to go beyond traditional use. TT was even to confirm some of the stuff I tried.

Perhaps, don’t be so assuming. You know what they say about that.

I can’t assume that you tried what I wrote. I’ve learned to be a skeptic about things and need proof before accepting anyone’s statement. You could have said that you’d tried it and that would have ended the conversation. I don’t need a sermon on the subject. I’ve spent a lot of time (decades) making s/w do things the developers never thought of or said could be done. Same for h/w.

Your ‘Ive been doing this forever’ thing is wearing thin on me.

That, my friend, is your problem. Not mine. And with a response as yours, I probably wouldn’t blame them for their dismissive attitude. However, anyone who knows me knows that if I said I’ve tried something, I have indeed done just that. Not to mention that they also know that I am not the type of entertain itchy ears, but somehow I think you might already be aware of that.

You’re not the only one who’s been doing this for decades. Not to mention the only cynic around (life has a way of doing that).

That being said, the very reason presets work the way they currently do is probably the same reason they grouped them as such. I’m sure they can figure out ways to make them upward compatible the best thing that can be done at this time is to submit a feature request. Either way doesn’t concern me much since I usually know where to find the user preset I am looking for since I would be looking for a specific sound associated to the producer who recorded them for the song at hand.

Well being that I don’t know you my response was right on. Don’t know where you get I talked about people having a dismissive attitude towards me. You act like you know it all and don’t like when someone challenges your way of thinking. I don’t know what you have against me – have I wronged you in another lifetime? What is this ‘itchy ears’ thing anyways?

Thanks, everyone. I’m glad to see there are others interested in this feature too.

    I submitted a feature request.

    Cheers!
