    Hi Patrick,

    i) Having drop a block from EXD3 onto a new track in S1 there is no dynamic link between EXD3 & S1 – S1 doesn’t ‘know’ that the midi has come from EXD3

You are correct, a DAW like Studio One does not detect that MIDI dropped on the Studio One timeline has come from EZD3, and MIDI will not automatically appear in the Studio One timeline if it is added to the EZD3 song track.

ii) You can only mute the (EXD3) drum track via the mixer panel and not the other places where mute and solo buttons appear.

We can see that the Instrument track that you are muting in the Studio One timeline is not configured to be connected to your EZdrummer 3 instance that you can see and that you were muting in the Studio One mixer. The MIDI that you dragged there is not being sent to EZdrummer 3 when it is configured like that.

So, please enter EZdrummer 3 as MIDI Out for the Instrument track that you have there, then you will have a connection between the Studio One timeline and the EZdrummer 3 plug-in. See image below.

    Studio-One-MIDI-Out

After that has been done, you can click the Keyboard/VST button for that Instrument track in Studio One to bring up the EZdrummer 3 window within Studio One.

    Toggle-plug-in-window-S1

You can confirm that you are looking at the EZdrummer 3 session that is within Studio One and not the standalone application by confirming that the Follow Host button is placed to the left of the Transport buttons.

In Studio One for Mac, there is an offset making it difficult to drag audio into Bandmate. If you aim at the bottom of the drop-zone window of Bandmate, it should work. Our development team is aware of the issue.

Hi Petter, thanks for the feedback.

So in terms of process, if I start writing a song with a drumbeat, I should be starting in S1 and using the VST, is that correct?

I’m not clear under what circumstances (if any) I would use the stand alone version.

    All the best.

    Patrick.

That sounds like a good workflow! Personally, I like to start the process in my DAW when I’m songwriting. But starting in the standalone application works too. It all comes down to preference. Note that you can save the standalone project via File > Save As and then load that project in S1 from the same File menu in EZdrummer 3.
