I have EZ Drummer 2 and Superior Drummer 3. I just received an email announcing EZ Drummer 3.
Since I have Superior Drummer 3, is there any reason to also upgrade to EZ Drummer 3?
Please explain if there are reasons for an upgrade to EZ Drummer 3 under these conditions. Thanks!
Same kind of question here
What features are EZ-Drummer 3 exclusive compared to SD3 ? If any, are they going to be implemented in coming SD3 update ?

Thanked by: Christophe PRATLONGYeah. I’d love to know too. SD was not cheap and had been under the impression that EZ2 was on its way out in terms of future development.

Thanked by: Christophe PRATLONGI pre-ordered the upgrade today.
The upgrade price is about the same as a regular EZX. I think the new core library including midi grooves and the curiosity about the new features are worth it.
I don’t see the point if you have sd3
SD3 with older sdx,s plus Rooms of Hansa and Death & Darkness. Cubase and wavelab current versions. Roland TD50x using all trigger inputs for triggering SD3 only. Windows 11 computer. Various keyboards and outboard gear as well as VST instruments. Acoustic drums: Yamaha 9000 natural wood and Pearl masters. Various snare drums. RME BabyFace Pro FS and Adam A7X monitors
Hi Mark,
the new features and especially the new library would be selling points. Please check out Rick’s live video walkthrough to find out more:

But it can’t play sdx packs so to get some features on the non premium product seems wrong. Surely sd3 should have more features?
It’s probably more suited to those who are not edrummers. I don’t use beat makers or the midi rhythms as I play all the drums myself so anything like that is of no use to me. I don’t record in the program as I keep all my midi within Cubase.
I would assume the next version of sd3 (or sd4!!) will have the features plus more since it is the premium product. I haven’t heard of any software where you get less on the premium product. Cubase for instance has all and more than the cheaper versions. I wouldn’t expect to have to buy there cheaper version as well!

I agree with you. If you use SD3 as a pure e-drumset, as probably many others do, then a corresponding “SD Player” version is actually missing in Toontrack’s product series. This could be much slimmer and maybe a bit cheaper than Superior Drummer….
If EZD3 is completely new, then I could well imagine that the developers have already included SD4 under the hood. The versions would all have an identical user interface with only different functionality. Similar to Cubase, Studio One and FL Studio etc. That’s how I would do it anyway.
SD3 looks quite old-fashioned compared to EZD3, even though they both have the same version number.
I think they have it the wrong way round. You usually have all new features in the premium product and then release a cut down version. For me I don’t need ezdrummer any version but it seems a bit wrong for those who want the features of new ezdrummer and have to buy both programs if they want all the features. I just don’t see this anywhere else. It should be sd4 first then ez. It’s seems like a money making project where the users get stung twice if they want both features.

Rikk said it, if you own SD3 consider ezdrummer 3 as a new SD3 expansion, nothing more nothing less

If that’s the case, then they need to offer the upgrade discount to SD3 owners.
I do t think I need the ez sounds. I already have Hansa which will be far more detailed than ez. Nothing for me in ez.

After today’s release of the update 3.3 of SD3, the new functions “display of the groove in the groove tab” from Ez Drummer 3 and of course VST 3 have been added.
Is it intended to make the new functions “Tap to Find Sequencer” and “Bandmate” available for SD3 in a further update? Or will these functions remain exclusive to Ez Drummer 3?
