Hi there
On the add instrument window on the bottom left you should see; Route close mics to mixer channels; Existing or New. Selecting “New” should create a separate close mic.
Mac Studio M1 Max, RAM 64 GB, 1TB Drive, OSX 12.x/13.x and Windows 10 (VM)
DAW: Studio One Pro (always up to date)
DTX Express III (Extreme triggers), Nektar LX88
OWC Thunderbay Mini (4 X 1TB Sata SSD), Express 4M2 (4 X 2TB M.2 SSD), Envoy Express (1TB M.2 SSD)
Presonus Quantum, Faderport & Faderport 8
Black Lion Sparrow Mk2 A/D, FMR-RNP-RNC, MIDI Xpress 128, BM5A, KRK VXT4, Equator D5
2020 Macbook Pro 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD Audio(mobile rig)
I tried that… creates a new mixer channel but uses one of the existing rack tom mics…
I added another tom, made sure New was selected and still showing in the Mic column one of the other rack tom mics. image attached.

What I think you are seeing in middle column on the route instrument microphone page is, racktom1, is the original name of the close microphone/channel for that instrument(racktom) from the preset/kit you have taken it from.
Another example would be let’s say you add another kick drum, you might have 2 close microphone channels, kick in, kick out, same as the kick in the kit you are adding to.
I hope I am making sense.

ah.. ok… I think I understand. That is just the default for the instrument, but when you map to a mixing channel you are essentially changing or customizing the mix used. Thank you!
