    Hi there

    On the add instrument window on the bottom left you should see; Route close mics to mixer channels; Existing or New. Selecting “New” should create a separate close mic.

    I tried that… creates a new mixer channel but uses one of the existing rack tom mics…

    I added another tom, made sure New was selected and still showing in the Mic column one of the other rack tom mics. image attached.

    What I think you are seeing in middle column on the route instrument microphone page is, racktom1, is the original name of the close microphone/channel for that instrument(racktom) from the preset/kit you have taken it from.
    Another example would be let’s say you add another kick drum, you might have 2 close microphone channels, kick in, kick out, same as the kick in the kit you are adding to.

    I hope I am making sense.

    ah.. ok… I think I understand. That is just the default for the instrument, but when you map to a mixing channel you are essentially changing or customizing the mix used. Thank you!
