Hello everyone.
Here is the problem:
I have a Roland TD-27 module . When I hit any pad (in this topic will use snare) with full force I see velocity 127 in the Analyser window (see the attached file). So it means the module is configured correctly and the MIDI signal is what supposed to be.
What I expect: the sound close to one when I click the snare in the interface.
What I get: very weak and quiet sound.
I tried connecting module directly via USB and to the sound interface using MIDI cable. The result is the same. The sent MIDI note velocity is 127 but SD3 doesn’t process the note correctly. Moreover if I record pure MIDI track in Logic Pro and then play it with SD3 as VST everything works fine and the velocity is perfect. The issue can be reproduced only if you trying to play in realtime mode.
Ahead of hearing the popular advice for similar issues “play with velocity curve”. This is not how it supposed to work. I don’t want to eliminate difference between 100 and 127. The idea of using SD3 is to have good range not to make it worse.
I see this error quite often in this forum but there is definitely a bug which has to be fixed or any proper workaround to be found.
What if you record the hit in SD3, how does it sound if you play the recorded block and what velocity does the note have (in the Grid Editor)?

It is recorded as 126 and is played as supposed to afterwards.
It seems doesn’t work properly only in realtime.
Is the sound library fully loaded when you hit the pad or are you using cache mode? Is it always the same kind of weak sound if you hit the pad repeatedly?
Very strange that you get a different result hitting the e-drums as when playing the same MIDI from a Logic track, because both are just the same to SD3 – incoming MIDI. Is the same e-drum preset active in SD3 when you play the Logic track?

Yes. The preset is fully loaded and the preset is the same. It can be reproduced in both Logic Pro and standalone application. It can be reproduced with any kit from the core library
It is very strange indeed, that’s why I’m referring to this issue as a bug.
Do you get exactly the same data in the MIDI analyzer window in SD3 when you hit the snare pad as when you play the snare MIDI from the Logic track?
What sound output device are you using? Have you tried with the normal Mac speakers?

Yes. Analyser shows strong hit around 127. If I record this hit in Logic or directly in SD3 it is played correctly afterwards. Problem is reproduced only in realtime play.

Actually I’m using Tascam Model 12 as an output. Just tried MacBook Pro Speakers and it works fine. Any clues what’s can be wrong with the external audio interface?
OK, seems the problem was that SD3 takes full control over the digital mixer when playing in realtime and completely ignores system settings. I switched output to the different channels and routed SD3 to different inputs on the mixer (not the same as system sounds). Now it works fine.
Thank you for your help.
