Hi all!
I have been happily using Superior drummer 3 without issues for 9 months. Now I get a crash when opening a project in Cakewalk which includes superior drummer. Older projects open without issues but two recent ones can’t be opened except very occasionally. Superior drummer is up to date.
Any ideas?
Hi,
Have you updated Cakewalk to a new version recently? If so, maybe it works better in an older version? Or if you strip those projects from all other plug-ins, do they still cause crashes?
Do you have any .dmp files from these crashes that you could upload?

Thanks Olof,
no I haven’t updated Cakewalk recently. And I haven’t installed any new software. When I’m able to to open the projects I will try deleting other plugins. But these projects are very simple and bare because I just started them. The worry is that maybe the problem will appear in older projects as well. Or in the final stages of a mix.
Anyway, I enclosed a dump file for further inspection.
Please try starting the SD3 standalone a few times and see if you get any crash.
Another thing you can try, based on what I found in the dump file, is to go to the location where all presets are saved – you can find the path at the bottom of Libraries/Paths in Settings – and empty that folder, i.e., temporarily move everything out, and check if you still get crashes in Cakewalk.

Thanks Olof,
looks promising! I managed to open the projects few times in a row. So far so good!
I will get back if the issue persists.
Nice. If removing the presets fixed it, I’d be interested in seeing what you had in there.

I only run the standalone version before opening Cakewalk. Works great so far.
I see my saved presets in the folders shown in ‘user presets’ path. Some in ‘files/toontrack/superior3/presetsezx/sl-dfh/s3presets and then others in files/toontrack/superior3/presetsezx/superior_drummer_3/s3presets. The prior folder shows only the most recent ones and the latter only older ones.
Should they all be in just one folder? If so, which one? Or do they relate to the add-on packages (I purchased the metal foundry recently)?
It was a premature relief. The issue persists. I then tried temporarily removing presets from both of the folders. No improvement. The projects open randomly maybe 1/6 of the times. Regardless of running the standalone version or having the folders empty (or not).
But then I started removing other plugins and was able to pinpoint the crashes to BiasFx2. When removing the few instances I had on the tracks, the crash no longer happens. Now, what can I do with this information? I really need them to work together and not cause such conflict.
Oddly the older (and much bigger) projects with both plugins run without issues. BiasFx2 is up to date and so is Cakewalk. Win10 doesn’t have any pending updates either. My gpu is also running the latest driver.
Could you please send me a minimal Cakewalk project that crashes when opened, containing only SD3 and BiasFx2? I’ll try get that plug-in and reproduce it.
Then you can check if it matters in which order you have the plug-ins and tracks in the project – it likely does somehow.

It’s very unpredictable and unreliable. However, I now have a project which doesn’t open at all but it contains a few plugins in addition to SD3 and BiasFx2. It either crashes or doesn’t open fully to track view. Would this file help with the investigation? How do you want the file to be sent?
Attach the zipped file to a post here, please.

There you are. It’s a .cwp file (no audio). As the project doesn’t open properly I can’t include any audio (.cwb would be the same size, no audio either).

Thanked by: Olof HermanssonUnfortunately I have no problems opening that project with BiasFx2, but it contains many other plug-ins that I’m missing.

I use SD3 in the latest Cakewalk by Bandlab with no problems. Some pretty big projects with lots of plugins. Not the one you mention though. I’d make sure you have the latest version of CbB. The developers are constantly improving it.
SD3, EZD, EZ Keys 1&2, EZ Bass. Win10, i9/9900, all SSDs, 64g RAM, Cakewalk, Studio One
Yes it’s hard to narrow the problem and reproduce the crash. I have a collection of plugins that I normally use. All projects open just fine except this specific one. As I can’t open it it’s hard to list what plugins are being used. But as it’s starter project I hadn’t inserted that much yet.
Anyway, if I get wiser later on I will certainly share my findings.
