Hi Everyone 🙂
I have some Low Volume issue with Superior Drummer 3, I found a lot of topics on the internet regarding this issue, unfortunately no one resolve it till now, even official support. After spend hours and everyone blame “its your module, its your audio interface, bla bla etc…”
i found that the issue is more simple to reproduce and not related to anything else but the SD3 software it self. Reproduce Steps:
1) Open SD3 on your computer select the default kit from the basic library ( just for the example )
2) Go to Groove Tab and Play some groove
3) Go to Youtube and play some song Do you can hear the groove ? ( im not )
This is the main issue to all others issues pepole think they have with module or drums etc ..
The volume of the drums in SP3 are extremely LOW. What i tried ?!
1) exceed the db volume from master ( not really help even if i put it on 12db ) and its just work around and cause to hiss and unexpected noises.
2) buy a recommended interface audio – nothing was changed.
3) Play with mixer – maybe there is the solution but i didnt find good configuration to make it loud without additional noises in background. and really, from that amount of price for that software i assume it will be out of the box.
I will be happy for any kind of help, I spent a lot of money on stuff around this issue, eventually I figure out its nothing else but the Software it self.
Thanks .. 🙂
I’ve had the same problem. Would love to learn how to fix it. The SD3 is the only library I own that defaults to volume which is much too low. Strange. I suspect the issue is the player, not the individual samples.

There is nothing wrong with it. See the other thread.

Me too. I’m using the VST version in Studio One 5.5. Output is way too low. I gain stage my tracks to -18dB but SD3 is about 11 dB too low. Support has not been able to help.
Did you never figure this out? Im having the same issue. Thanks

I am going to play the dumb dumb here. Is it across all the pads, or one pad in particular. Have you imported a pad from another library like me, that is low compared to the kit pieces in the library I am using. I don’t even remember a master volume control in the VST for the main output.
I noticed that you are advertising version 3.2 something. Maybe you should upgrade to the latest version where possibly the problem has been repaired or resolved, those are the reasons that you will see a version go from 3.31 to 3.32.
I will say that if you are selecting the version every time you do your text, you could accidentally select the wrong version. In the past, I have seen a version come out and then another one follow a week later, because of an issue. That’s why you will notice I purposely did it, in that, I selected a wrong version and in my signature I have the actual version. I’m lazy I don’t wanna have to go through that. Select this and select that every time I post. I Put it in the signature and it’s there forever until you change it.
VSTs have had their issues in the past. I run in standalone mode, and the output of that interface(Tascam) is dumped into a stereo pair on the main interface (Roland 1610) that I use for recording. I set all my volumes in SD3 and then I can adjust the output volume of the SD3 interface (physical knob) to the volume I want. I run CC controllers to adjust each kit piece volume. I also de-tuned my kit pieces with my CC controllers. Both standalone and VSTs have their issues and their benefits.
Now, with VSTs, you have latency issues. That is another whole ball of wax.
It would be nice to know what your gear is. It’s like saying I drive a car and it doesn’t work, but you haven’t told us what model car it is!
Are there input gain controls in your DAW not the faders. Are there physical input gain controls or output volume controls on your hardware? Mine do!
You are asking us for help and giving us nothing specific. If you tell us, you have a 1963 Chevy Impala on a gravel road and it makes noise every time you hit a pothole, we can help. If you tell us you have a car and it doesn’t work well… what are we supposed to do, guess.
Tell us what you have in physical gear, recording software, and the issue you are having, maybe we can help. Otherwise, we, the community, have little to go on.
Cheers Ken

Thanks. Not sure why but it works fine with the 212 so my issue seems to be with my 18i20. No update available or anything not sure why. Sorry didn’t lay it out clearly. I was just responding to see what he found. I’m going from dtx pro x to MacBook m3 and using focusrite as volume control basically. The 18i20 is barely audible when cranked but the 212 seems ok. Thanks again maybe something in control or an issue with interface
I had the same issue. Toontrack support could not help me. I now use SD3 to audition grooves from the MIDI packs and then use them with an alternative, and better, drum sample VST. No more issues

I have an 18i20 (1st gen) and a 2i2 (3rd gen) form Focusright. On the 18I20 is there any pad turned on? It is very weird that you have very low output. I run wave lab on my 18I20 more or less as a monitor for audio levels and frequency etc. I have noticed through experimentation that the ADAT output is alot hotter. I send the analog out and the ADAT to a Moto and send its output to an audio input on my main recording interface. Without touching any volume controls and just switching from analog input to ADAT the signal is significantly hotter. However when running ADAT there is no control with the volume button and mute buttons. I am also going to assume that you’re dim control is not turned on.
Cheers Ken

Thanks for the reply. I know to mix drums so I’ve been able to get them to sound good enough through the 212. Still not sure what the problem is with 18i20. As an app its ok but in ableton its just been a pain in the ass. I can barely hear when im recording but on playback it sounds ok in the mix. Which is not a fun way to record. Also its a constant battle not to clips the main in ableton even though i cant hear when recording. Im about ready to go to addictive drums at this point. Its quite terrible
When I purchased Superior Drummer, I, too, struggled with a low output. The Velocity trigger reached 127, but the sound did not cut through while playing with a backing track. After many tutorial forum posts, I learned we must build a custom kit. There are many presets with different sound levels and feel. For example, the rock kit sounds a bit high, while the clean kit sounds low.
When you open a preset like Club Kit Basic from the group pop/rock group, I observed that it sounded better for me and comparatively louder because it has compression enabled for some kit pieces. In contrast, the clean kit has no effects like eq or compression.
I started building the kit, using Club Kit Basic as a starting point ( as suggested in a video tutorial). I also enabled little compression on the stereo output channel.
Now, the superior drummer kit sounds loud enough for me, and as the name is, it sounds superior to the EzDrummer 3 or Addictive drums ( I have both)
The project is attached to this post. One can try downloading and using this setting to see if you like the sound.
A superior Drummer is not ready to play out of the box for every Edrummer. It is powerful, complex, and indeed superior. One needs to learn and tweak the presets to their liking, and the rewards will be very satisfying. I am going through tutorials and reading more about it.
