I am looking for a specific hi hat hit, which I’m sure is in many songs, but Tommy Lee (motley crue) does it all the time. Basically the foot on the hat opens up enough for a good wash sound, and quickly clamps down to choke it. It’s all over the first album, you can listen to the song “too fast for love” and the the entire verse is that (with an occasional splash / crash).
Does that sound exist in an EZD2 expansion pack, groove midi, or is it able to be recreated using the midi roll in my DAW?
Side note if ToonTrack reads these, midi should really be editable within the EZD windows (not having to drag out to DAW), the dial for hits is convenient but certainly lacking.
Thanks!!
I did not go listen. Theirs Open and Closed pedal hits.

Yes, you can do it. I’m attaching two midi files for you. These use CC4 automation to mimic a drummer opening and closing the hat during a beat – that’s the trick to getting the sound. One file I just made to demonstrate the sounds – it has 4 hi-hat hits. The other is the verse to Welcome to the Jungle that gives a musical context for using automation like this.
