The Superior Drummer 3 fit just fine on my 110 GB SSD drive. However not much room left over for the Effects Library so I had to install it on an internal extra 500 GB HDD.
It occurs to me, from experience using computers, that this is going to make the Superior Drummer 3 think I don’t have a library because I imagine it will look for library in the same drive it’s installed in. I have only spent a few minutes in SD3 so far and I’m thinking that the list of available kits I’m seeing is pretty thin so I think I’m right about this.
Can I point the SD3 to look for library in another hard drive, or am I going to have to uninstall SD3 and then reinstall it on the larger hard drive?
Like I said, it might already being SEEING this huge library and I’m just not familiar enough with the software to locate this massive library I downloaded.
For example, I want to switch from a standard drum kit to a bongo set. I would assume, being the size of this library there must be bongo and other unique percussion instruments in there but… even in the video demos when they are digging around showing us how to use the program it looks like when you are working with a snare… the only other instrument you can add or stack or replace is another snare.
I’m hoping I’m wrong about that as well. I’ll figure this out as I go along but first, help me if you could determine if I have a problem with my library and my program being in separate hemispheres in my system.
Thank you.
Separate hemispheres? I just realized that’s an understatement. They are on different planets I think. 😀
I have installed SD3 on my main SSD and the core libraries on an external SSD. Works fine. I actually manually moved the core libraries to the external SSD after installing them and just changed the path in the product manager.
Thanks for the reply.
I think an external hard drive is different. When you plug that in the Windows reads it as a plug and play and then associates the files on it with whatever programs you are running. This is an internal extra hard drive. Furthermore, the SDX is installed on the larger hard drive (that has no windows files on it whatsoever). And, oh, I just notices you’re using MAC. That’s completely different. What works on a MAC does not necessarily work in windows.
I’m suspecting that the SD3 has no idea the library is even there. There are a LOT missing features and menu options and according to the logs the DM3 is only PARTIALLY installed on the smaller SSD.
I think I’m going to uninstall everything and do it again. I only hope that I am able to do that without buying a new activation code. (I’ve run into problems before with programs like these where you only get ONE download/install then the activation code doesn’t work on the second. I know, that’s ancient history but I still run into it.
Time will tell.
