I’m trying to use the Mute Tail function for 16″ Sabian HHXtreme Crash/18″ Evolution O-Zone Crash, but when I hit the MIDI note I assigned for Mute Tail, it plays the Crash articulation instead. I think this cymbal doesn’t actually have a Mute Tail sample and that’s why it auto-remaps to Crash. However, if I remove the assigned MIDI mapping for Mute Tail, play the Crash articulation, and quickly click on the empty Mute Tail item in MIDI Mapping, it does mute the cymbal. That would be enough for me, but I can’t get this to work with MIDI notes.
Can I achieve this somehow with normal MIDI notes?
Just a follow up in case anyone happens to need this information:
This does work in Superior Drummer 2, so it’s likely a bit of an oversight in SD3. But in SD3 you can also kinda achieve this by setting the cymbal Choke/Mute Settings to Note Off mode, and then writing your MIDI notes accordingly. Of course it won’t help if you’re trying to play an e-kit, but then you can probably utilize the Aftertouch mode instead.
