The toms and ride cymbal are panned opposite the crashes. It makes no sense to me. It’s not how the other ambient mics work. What’s going on with that channel?
Also, the Amb Close channel is panned opposite the Amb Far channel. Not a huge deal because at least the crashes, ride, and toms are properly aligned in each, so I can just reverse the panning of one. Just something else to check out while you’re at it. 🙂
I just started using sd3 this week and noticed the same thing. I am trigger and everything from my roland td 8 Kit. The workaround I found for the cymbal s was to change the order of assignment. in the Midi in/ out window. when you hit cymbal to you can assign a different cymbal from the list. I’m not in front of the set right now so I don’t remember which one ones I changed but it worked. I didn’t worry about the Ambient Mics like you mentioned because you really can’t tell too much of a difference. I hope that helps
That doesn’t sound at all like what I’m referring to. Now that you have it set up, load Rock Warehouse stock, solo the overhead, then solo the Amb Mid channel. Does the same crash cymbal now sound like it’s coming from the opposite side? Or just solo the Amb Mid channel and see if crash cymbals and toms both sound panned properly. That’s the real issue: toms and crashes are panned opposite each other in the same channel, so you can only have either toms or crashes properly panned in Amb Mid, not both.
I also checked Indiependent’s Amb Mid channel. No issue there. Cymbals and toms both panned in alignment with each other and with all other channels. So I’m pretty confident this is a mistake in Rock Warehouse and hope for a fix (or explanation) VERY SOON. 😓
On second listening, the Amb Close and Far channels aren’t panned opposite. The Amb Far channel is practically mono. I’d like an explanation (or fix) as to why the Amb Far channel doesn’t sound stereo. The “left” channel is bright and articulate, the “right” channel is roomy with less attack. Panned 100% left and right, it sounds like everything is coming from maybe 50% left. This again screws up the overall stereo image.
Am I supposed to send Amb Far to separate mono tracks and treat each as merely a different flavor of mono room tone?
It would be nice if the expansions came with detailed explanations of the mic setups, not just the kit pieces.
