The new update is much more efficient and fast on this system but, I am getting frequent spinning wheel hangs when the EzDrummer track is selected.
I’ve had this happen more than a handful of times when joining midi regions and jumping to a cycle region after pressing play, but only if the track or track stack with EzDrummer in it is selected. It will just hang without crashing… not sure what’s happening without an error message or crash report? I’m using Logic 10.6.1 on Big Sur with the Rosetta emulation. Did not have this issue ever on v2.1.8.
Cheers!
I should note that by “hanging” I mean that Logic stops operating and I have to force close it. Any ideas? Did I find a bug?
Upon further testing I tried a really scaled back project with just ez drummer and two neural Dsp plugins which haven’t been updated in months. To me it looks like having EzDrummer in a track stack doesn’t matter. The trigger for the hanging seems to be quickly stopping and starting playback (double tapping the space bar), possibly just with cycle mode on.

Thanked by: PaulI’ve had similar issues with 2.2.0 on Imac with Mojave. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling and now EZdrummer doesn’t even try to install AU or VST.
right_to_rage, I would be very curious to hear of your overall experiences with Toontrack products and the M1 Mac. Facing an upgrade myself.
Hey everyone – bumping this thread, as I’m also having “spinning wheel of death” freezing issues. Seems to occur ONLY when an EZdrummer track is selected and you’re working on the MIDI region – usually when hitting spacebar to hear playback, or when clicking and dragging in the MIDI region. Force-quitting Logic is the only option. Makes working with EZdrummer tracks quite literally unusable 🙁
Another clue for the thread, however: I’m not running an M1 mac – I’m on a mid-2015 Macbook Pro (powered by a 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7). SO, it would seem that perhaps we can rule that specific M1 hardware issue out.
Next, we can rule OS out: OP right_to_rage is running Big Sur, tn_robertson is on Mojave OS, while myself and Andy are running Catalina.
So, the three things we all have in common are: working on a Mac – we’re running Logic (in my case, 10.6.1) – and, EZdrummer 2.2.0. Final thing I can offer: if I MUTE the EZDrummer track, Logic will work totally normally.
Anyone at Toontrack have any ideas?? Would hate to have to return this and request a refund so soon after starting off, the drum sounds are great but if we can’t hear them and work on songs, that’s inexcusable.

Thanked by: right_to_rageOkay, update: I have been meticulously scrutinizing when this error occurs and what is causing it, and I’ve narrowed it down. It’s something to do with having the Piano Roll open (when your EZdrummer track is selected, so you can see your MIDI notes), and then: moving the playhead (in my experience, backwards really triggers a freeze) and then pressing the spacebar. All of this when the Cycle Range is OFF.
I’ve found a workaround for now that’s not TOO cumbersome!! I’ve been working for almost 15 minutes uninterrupted now, editing MIDI on an EZdrummer track and hitting the spacebar as much as I please, but I had to alter my workflow so as to not an encounter a “spinning wheel of death” freeze every few seconds. Everyone try this:
Voila! A little annoying but, until Toontrack releases an update (for presumably Logic Pro X 10.6.1), give it a try and see if this works for you for now, too!

Everyone try this:
- When editing an EZdrummer MIDI region with the Piano Roll open, FIRST set your Cycle Range (the yellow “repeat” bar) to the MIDI area you’re working on.
- If you’re like me and like to tweak, listen, tweak, listen – make your edits to the EZdrummer MIDI track, then hit the spacebar to listen… DON’T move the playhead with your mouse to the area you want to listen to, as that seems to trigger a freeze! If your Cycle Range is in the right place for your desired preview, all you have to do is keep hitting the spacebar and playback will start back right where you want it to, without having to move the playhead manually with your mouse.
Voila! A little annoying but, until Toontrack releases an update (for presumably Logic Pro X 10.6.1), give it a try and see if this works for you for now, too!
EZdrummer version: 2.2.0

I’d like to not set the expectation that a fix for logic 10.6.1 is what a needed. Logic worked fine with 2.1.8 regardless of version and then 2.2.0 broke things. I either need a fix that runs with logic 10.4 on Mojave or a nice clean way of getting 2.1.8 back and then clarity from toon track about what OS and version of logic is required to run newer versions so I can decide whether to upgrade/ buy new products.
Glad to see this behaviour can be verified by others! I’m not nuts. Toontrack please look into this! Lots of Logic users out there.
