Sorry, complete noob question here. I can load EZ drummer into a Logic Pro X track and compose songs from midi clips in the EZ drummer interface. But, when I drag and drop the midi song sections that I then create into the logic pro sequencer itself (into the blank track that EZ drummer is already set as the instrument for), instead of the midi data going into the EZ drummer track [yes, I’m dropping it ON that track], Logic creates two new tracks, both with instrument set to pianos. Both tracks are software instruments, and the top one is empty of midi data (as far as I can tell, it’s empty of any midi instrument triggers at any rate), the other one has all the midi instrument triggers in it (except by default it’s now being played on a grand piano instead of the EZ drummer drum kit!).
I can easily work around this problem by now dragging the midi data sitting in the piano track back up to my EZ drummer track, but I don’t think I should have to do this, and I don’t know why this is happening. I’m worried that as I experiment with multi output I’ll have more issues or that this will create problems in larger projects.
I suspect I somehow have some midi import setting in logic set incorrectly, but any input anyone has would be great!
Are you absolutely positive that when you grab a midi file from EZD2 and drag it to logic, that you are bulls-eyeing the EZD2 instrument track in Logic? You’ll see some hint or icon change in the cursor area that confirms your target, I assume.
The behavior you’re describing sounds like you’re dropping the midi file just under it’s intended track. Or what you’re describing is what might happen if I dragged a midi file from my desktop into an empty logic session, it tries to predict what instrument tracks you need and create them automatically.
Let me know, I’m curious.

Thanked by: grabomReally appreciate the feedback. Tried it again, but pretty sure I’m on the track.
I’ve attached a screen shot of my dragging the purple section (“Ride Bow”) of EZ drummer MIDI to the top EZ drummer loaded software instrument track in the logic sequencer (the only track in the project). The file is called Pre-Drop.
When you take a screenshot, it removes the cursor tooltip, but it said position 1, track 1.
Now, here is what I get when i release the mouse button (well, first it says do you want to import tempo information, I said “no” but it doesn’t matter if I say yes or no). This is Post-Drop. Piano files!
Any thoughts anyone has would be great.
Small bizarre update. When I drag a midi file directly from EZ drummer’s browser or search boxes to the Logic sequencer, it loads normally in the correct track. It’s only when I drag one (or more) sections from EZ drummer’s own sequencer at the bottom of the interface, that I get the weird 2-track piano behavior. If they go straight from library, it’s fine, if they go from EZ drummer’s sequencer, they don’t work right.
Hi,
this issue has been identified and fixed for the next update.

Thanked by: Peter Fairlie, Shootie and grabomHi,
this issue has been identified and fixed for the next update.

When is the next update? I’m having this issue and it’s been driving me crazy. Glad to know it’s not just me.
When is the next update?
Hi duscar,
as much as I understand you wanting to have a date, I do not have an ETA.
However, I do not believe it will take long.

Thanked by: Chris MontagnaGlad I’m not crazy. I just bought EZ Drummer 2 and having this same problem with Logic. Drag and drop makes 2 new piano files every time. Makes it pretty much worthless. I will contact Sweetwater to see if I can get a refund. Big bummer since the drums sound great and was really looking forward to this.
You’re definitely not crazy, and it’s annoying as hell. However, if you really like EZ drummer otherwise and want to use it, I would point out a couple of things.
1). Their tech support has said that they know about the problem (I’m guessing it’s some conflict with the often-update Logic Pro) and will fix it in the next patch (though they didn’t offer a date as to when that would be). See the thread above.
2). Until that happens, in my experience there are 2 decent work arounds.
(a). Drag the drum midi directly from the EZ drummer browser to the EZ drummer track (in other words, don’t drag the part you want first to the sequencer at the bottom of the EZ drummer interface itself, where you would usually assemble songs) and just assemble the song directly in Logic, rather than assembling it in EZ drummer’s sequencer. This (for me anyway) lets me drag the drum midi to the correct track if I’m not dragging it from EZ drummer’s sequencer. This obviously doesn’t let you do stuff like change the power hand and make tweaks, so a much better solution is:
(b). Go ahead and make the song in EZ drummer’s sequencer, play with the parameters till your heart’s content, then drag it to logic pro. Yes, you’ll get 2 piano tracks. But then just take the 2nd piano track’s midi triggers (i.e. the green software instrument section, not the entire track) and drag it up to the EZ drummer track. It will now play the EZ drummer virtual instrument and I think it will retain all your settings/changes. Then you can delete the two piano tracks. I am worried that some other midi info is getting lost (I’m far from an expert in midi) but if it is, I can’t see where. It’s a pain and adds some extra steps, but an ok stopgap if Toontrack is working on a fix.
I hope this helps. I know this is annoying, but I really do like EZ drummer as a composing tool and have just dealt with it
Small consolation, and no solution but just to say experiencing the identical problem…as a newbie thought it was me making a fundamental error or some setting somewhere needed changing….should have gone on forum sooner….spent about 3 hours trying to resolve. Hope they sort this fix soon….but glad an answer is out there.
Thanks.
Yes! I’m getting the exact same piano error. Is there a solution??
This problem as detected in December and it is March! I just bought EZD2 and
am very disappointed with this error. I noticed that even when dragging it to the drum
track, some of the drum parts change slightly.
Any updates on this?
Hi brianlg1,
are you sure you are using the latest version? 2.2.1 is currently working as expected in Logic Pro X for me.

Yes, it is still happening. How do I see what version I have?
I can’t find the ‘about’ section. Thanks!
Brian
Hi Brian,
you can see the version number in the lower right corner of the plug-in window. There is also an ‘About EZdrummer’ found in the Menu in the upper right corner of the plug-in.

Hi, I’ve just bought EZ drummer, keys and bass, May 2021. Getting exactly the same issue on drag and drop into Logic Pro. Two software instrument tracks open and the midi drops onto them instead of the target track. I then have to move the midi regions onto the proper track and delete the unwanted empty tracks and mixer channels. A bit of a pain.
Update, EZdrummer and bass seem to be working properly on the midi drag and drop now but the bug is still an issue with EZkeys.
