M1 MBPer here! I’m running it fine with the Modern Metal expansion using the Rosetta emulation in Logic 10.6 on OSX Big Sur, but the graphics on the kit viewer are really laggy. Other than that everything sounds great to me!

I think they’re planning on supporting it natively in the new year so fingers crossed that those issues are being fixed…

I have the new MacBook Air M1 with 16GB/512 configuration. Running with Logic Pro X (10.6.0) as the host on Big Sur (the dropdown to specify OS version stops at Catalina), and I’ve had mixed luck. I can add EZD to a track and it plays midi content already recorded back fine. But when recording content via a connected Alesis Mesh Nitro kit, the plugin has a tendency to bring the entire system down with a kernel panic and hard reboot.

So, not ready for primetime just yet. Judging at Toontrack’s speed, I’m betting it will be a few years before they have a native Apple Silicon version of EZD or SD ready for consumption. And knowing Toontrack, I’m betting it will be EZD3 or SD4, requiring a paid upgrade.

It sounds like it might be useable as I’m not recording drum parts, just using and editing patterns. I’m updating from an old MacBook and Logic 9 so I just wanted everything to work from scratch. Thanks for the replies.

Dave S, Ted Lee, and others,

Let us know how it performs for you. Some of us are also having to update from old computers and are very curious.

I’m running it here for a few days on a 13″ M1 with 16Gb RAM. Hosted in Logic. No problems at all yet. Yes, it’s running under Rosetta, but I don’t notice any lag.

Sara Scrofani, are you performing drum tracks in it, or using step programming or patterns? I’d seen reports of it doing the latter, but crashing on the former.

Drum tracks. Midi was generated with Logic’s Drummer, and then remapped slightly since EZD can’t make use of Logic’s internal articulation system for hi hat control. I haven’t made extensive use of the EZD loop browser yet but have auditioned probably about 20-30 loops just to check third-party midi libraries I copied to this new machine. That was OK too. So far no problems. I can’t say the same for all other 3rd party plugins, though. I have had “A plugin has reported that it has become unstable and Logic Pro needs to quit” (something like that) randomly with some NI stuff, Synthogy Ivory, and a few more. It’s never happened yet with EZDrummer.

I uninstalled EZD from my M1 Mac. While most of the crashes were when trying to record using an Alesis Mesh Nitro kit and using EZD on the track while it recorded, I did have some kernel panics when just using the EZD plugin on playback. EZD is just not ready for primetime with use on the M1 yet.

Hell, even this forum doesn’t list macOS Big Sur as an OS version when making a post. Toontrack really needs to get it in gear. I’m afraid we’ll be waiting a very long time for an M1/Big Sur approved version of EZD or SD.

And while we are at it, drop the ancient VMware Installer and use Apple’s recommended installer solution.

Running the latest EZD on my new M1 with 16 GB ram. Everything working as advertised, however Logic will crash occasionally when auto switching input/output devices as they are plugged in, unplugged, or connected/disconnected (Bluetooth) with EZD running on a track. Apple had me run a few tests to isolate the issue and it’s isolated to the EZD plugin and/or another Amp sim plugin. Curious to see what the update does to fix this.

I think I’ll wait until all the bugs are fixed , either that or I’ll buy a 2020 iMac since im still running a 2011 iMac with 16 GB ram and 2tb drive

What are these guys doing? Earning money with their products, but needed updates? May be in the future …..

Affinity apps (designer, photo, ….. ) been M1 ready since day 1 the M1 Macs been ready for sale.

I got two new M1 maschines, a M1 Mini 16gb, and a MacBook Air 8gb, Logic running fine, and want to install my EZDrummer 2 and Superiour drummer …… but does this make sence now?

When looking around there is plenty of software developers jusf sleeping, and the customers have to wait, and wait, and wait …. although they gave their money to these guys, also expecting updates when needed.

Strange, very strange ……..  may be look around on other drum softwares …..

Looks like there are no good Devs/Coder for Audio apps or they all are working for Apple, Reaper FM or Rogue Amoeba.

Every Audio app fells slow, outdated and you need to run it on a 5 years old Operation System.

When EZDrummer is doing nothing it needs 13% of my whole CPU Performance, just to be there.

@Toontrack: please decide if you like to sell good software for good money or crap software but then just take 1$ for it.
