EZD2 will not let you change time signatures, you can chose one for your project file that’s it.

#1 solution. Use EZ Drummer in your DAW, and EZD2 will follow your DAW’s time sig changes, no problem.

#2, which is a ugly workaround. You can easily drag a 4/4 beat, and a 7/8 into the song track, and any time sig for that matter. You’ll have to ignore the measure numbers. And if you start zooming into the timeline, you’ll be able to snap to resolutions faster than a quarter note. You’d also want to take the metronome accent away in the settings with your 4/4, 5/4, 6/4 project. Or completely turn the metronome off, or change it’s resolution, when combining 1/8 with 1/4 Time sigs and so on. It’s possible.

Tempo change is not possible. EZD2 works seamlessly with time sig/tempo changes when used with your DAW.

#2 is ugly and that’s what I went it.

#1 it’s not following my time signature changes. It follows tempo changes fine but not when I am going from 4/4 to 5/4. Doing this all in Logic Pro X

The idea is that you’re midi is also in logic and EZD2 is just a virtual instrument that triggers Logic’s midi.

If you’re not familiar you can literally drag the midi out of EZD2, from any location in EZD2 (folders/timeline/search tab), directly into your DAW’s Software Instrument track. At that point, you can start familiarizing yourself with Logic’s Piano Roll for editing if you wish. This is a very common workflow you might be interested in checking out if you do a lot of songwriting. If not, just do what you know and get it done anyway you can.

I was trying to keep from manual edits in the piano roll vs the great tools in EZ drummer for adjusting the beats.

such an easy thing, you would think they would pull the data from the DAW into the song editor.

Hi cpeplinski,

unfortunately Time Signature is not sent from the host to the plug-in like Tempo is, so there is no way for the plug-in to pick up what is happening Time Sig-wise in the host. This applies to all hosts.

In Superior Drummer 3, it can be solved by mirroring Time Sig and Tempo changes on the internal Song Track, either by manual editing or importing a MIDI file exported from the host.

EZdrummer 2 does not have those Dong Track features.

I absolutely love my EZD2 (and EZ Bass) but this is the biggest gap for a drum VST. I like keeping my MIDI inside EZD and EZB – and EZB can do it!
I have asked about this for EZDrummer3. EZ3 has so many other great features, this would be the icing on the cake and worth the upgrade.
Unfortunately Toontrack support cannot confirm or deny, which seems to suggest it may not happen (quote: “The only information we can provide is the presentation at https://www.toontrack.com/product/ezdrummer-3/ right now. If more information becomes available, we will notify all of our newsletter subscribers. “)
It would be a shame for EzD3 to miss out on this fundamental ‘drumming feature’ as well: it really is the only gap for this otherwise brilliant product. Here’s hoping it might be a secret feature to really make my day (and convince me to upgrade)!
