Greetings. Finally getting started on really using EZ Drummer 2. Fairly new at this, but I’ve worked on midi stuff before….there are so many ways to do this, looking for direction and help.
Any guidance and help most appreciated….Links to video’s great….At this moment, the main use for the drums is live performance….but recording will become important as well….both midi and audio.
Thanks.
1 Create a custom kit… https://youtu.be/4ExyBoFKgww
2 Depends on if you need to mix the individual drums in real-time or not. Individual outs is best if you need to EQ things separately. I do know the capability of the TM3 though. Maybe it can EQ different drums itself.
3 Each drum is already setup on it’s own midi channel. Go to main Menu>About Sound Libraries> “Your EZX”>Midi Layout to see what drum produces which midi note. Mid has nothing to do with separating your drum mixing channels. You need the correct audio interface to do this which can be configures in the Settings>Audio/Midi Setup>Audio Device and selecting your (multi) out channels. Then your audio interface plugs into the X32 and go from there.
4 There is no best. Your preference. Why use DAW if you have X32, you might ask yourself.
5 You can not remap in EZ Drummer 2. This is a Superior Drummer feature. You must remap with your TM3 hardware. Reference the Midi Layout .pdf I mentioned earlier. Roland TM3 doesn’t come up fast enough for me in Google. You must locate the User Manual (sometimes this info is in other support documents and not the manual) and read the Midi sections to see how to remap from your hardware.
Hope that helps.

Thanks a ton…..I’ve been looking to see if there is an upgrade path to SD….and just like when I purchased, there really is no deal on an upgrade…..I could do what I did before and wait till there was a deal on….but is it worth it? Mapping drums is such a basic feature, that I’m surprised it is not available in any package, even a stripped down version..
The sounds coming out of theTM3 – suck. Working on a full replacement of ALL those sounds and using ONLY EZ, or SD.
A lot of people bash EZD2 for not doing one specific thing. But EZD2 smokes its competition with all of it’s other features for price, IMO. The more EZD2 gets, the less value SD3 has, IMO.
If you doing pro gigs and can afford the expenses, SD3 and a interface with routing options is the way to go. With that said, you can get by with EZD2, no prob. Just a few workarounds. If your drummer is pro with insane dynamic standards, I would push harder for SD3 at that point.
The Crossgrade price seems steep. If you’re trying to do what the best of the best in edrumming is doing, I would say not so much though. As a hobby or side project, yeah it’s expensive.
Have fun with this stuff!

Ok, so I have EZ working pretty well…..thanks for the great video series, and was able to remap the, and I got the model wrong, the Roland TM6 Pro. so we have our drums working pretty well at least in stereo. A limitation that an issue but for the drummer . He wants grandular control in our IEM system for his drums. Looks like a move to Superior.
I contacted Toontracks and asked them about the best way of upgrading….either selling EZ or paying for the cross grade….They only answered part of the question, yes I can see my EZ licence.
Also, drum packs. I’m not rich and can’t afford to buy packs that will not be used. Is there a way to try a drum pack before purchase? I know you can listen to them, but that’s not the same as trying them.
Superior includes more drums, so maybe, and the ability to import other samples…..
Advice on upgrading, or any other comments most appreciated.
