Hi There – there’s very useful Toontrack support video on Youtube about setting up ezdrummer. It says you create a multi-track instance and then add tracks for each individual instrument sound.
However, there’s also an onboard mixer in ezdrummer which allows you to adjust the level of each individual instrument from inside application.
Why aren’t these two approaches to mixing basically equivalent?
In it’s most basic sense yes. If your only concerned with setting levels then you can do it that within EZDrummer and use a stereo track to sum the entire kit, ambient channels, OH, etc. However, if you want, for example, to tweak the snare with an EQ or apply a bit of compression on the kick, then (unlike SD3 where you can do that within the plugin) you might want to send the channels out separately into Logic Pro X for further processing.
