What electronic drum set (best, least expensive, etc.) do I get to take advantage of all SD3’s Articulations? I currently have an Alesis DM10 Pro mkII, which doesn’t seem to send CC messages.
You need to give a price point. Roland gear is good at triggering and sends cc data but it depends on which module you get for positional sensing. This tends to be only on the top end modules (usually the top two so current models td27 and td50) then there is 2nd hand where the td30 is a great module for triggering.
you didn’t say if you wanted a full kit including pads. There are other options where you can get a kit and sell the module and get a 10 input edrumin which does positional sensing and sends cc data. If you don’t need module sounds these units are great. You can also buy kits without modules or even make your own by converting a normal kit.
Take a look at the vdrum forum as lots of ideas on there go get you thinking.

Thanked by: AnecdoteWell I’d like to keep around $2000. However that eDRUMin looks pretty nice for the money (if it works well)! Thanks so much!!!
My kit is a frankenstein mishmash of Roland pieces I’ve accumulated over the years. Their stuff triggers really well and keeps it value for a long time, so buying/selling/upgrading on eBay or Reverb is a good way to get just the pieces you want. As soon as I tried the eDRUMin, I ditched my TD-9 and haven’t looked back. I can trigger rim/rimshot/hit on each and every mesh pad I own, I get bow/edge/bell on all my cymbals, positional sensing and the smoothest electronic hihat I’ve ever played. I highly recommend it.
